2009
We are celebrating freedom this year by promoting dogs living free from life on a chain. Encourage your neighbors, friends and family to build a great dog proof fence and/or make their dog a family pet by bringing them in the home! Stop by our office and make a donation and you will get a free "FREEDOM" shirt!
We do not have a shelter or facility. All animals are living in a foster home. If you would like to meet or adopt an animal, we will arrange to meet you in town-usually at a vet clinic or our office-at your convenience. We also try to have an adoption drive the first saturday of each month (excluding holiday weekends) -please check our website for schedule.
We are a local non profit organization whose emphasis is to educate the public concerning the prudence & responsibility of neutering & spaying dogs and cats while we provide professional veterinary supervision for their medical needs and caring foster homes for these lovely healthy animals until they are permanently placed. We also offer spay/neuter assistance in the form of a limited number of discount coupons made available monthly on a first come first serve basis.Click on our newly developed website hsuvalde.com to view frequently asked questions concerning our goals and who we are.
We can use the help. We need volunteers in all areas. If you have an interest or special skills in animal care, organization, fundraising, PR, etc ...WE WANT YOUR HELP! We have several different volunteer areas which include:
Humane Education: a team goes into the classrooms to talk with youngsters about being kind and compassionate to animals. This area also focuses on speaking to different groups in the community such as girl scouts, the Garden Club, and any other venue we are invited to speak at.
Foster/Adoption Program: : Individuals and families foster a pet in their home until a permanent home is found. No fear-you will not have the pet for long. Our current average is about 3 weeks. The HS provides for all medical needs and food. You just provide a home, time and love!
Fundraising Team/Event Planners: This is a group that plans and prepares our fundraising agenda. They are responsible for rounding up the volunteers and planning the dates.
City Pound Rescue: We have begun a new program rescuing animals from the city pound and we needs lots of help with this great plan!
Coordinators: We are searching for more people to help with the basics of running our organization. We needs manpower in the areas of organizing data, volunteers and members.
What ever your skill, whatever your passion, we have a place for you.

and click on the bone that says "forms" and complete either the dog or cat application. You can email the application to naemac78@sbcglobal.com, fax it to 830 278- 4883 or mail it in to us at P.O. Box 1650 Uvalde Texas 78802-1650. Sometimes, we receive several applications for one animal so completing the form does not guarantee the adoption of the animal. Applications are reviewed on a first come basis.
A committee reviews the application and the basic purpose and focus is to make sure the animal you are applying for is a good match. Our goal is to adopt animals into a forever home. Someone will contact you, usually in 1-2 days and let you know the status. Sometimes, we receive several applications for one animal so completing the form does not guarantee the adoption of the animal. Applications are reviewed on a first come basis. BEST OF LUCK ON FINDING YOUR NEW FAMILY PET!
All of the animals in our program are living in a foster home until they are adopted. Every animal is spayed/neutered, current on shots, has tested negative for heartworms and is on prevention and are also on flea/tick prevention such as frontline or advantage.
If you have found yourself in a situation where you are in need of finding a new home for an animal in your care, we will try our best to help you. Please understand, we only foster animals in our homes, we do not have a shelter or faciility, so space is very limited. Our primary efforts are placed in saving animals who would otherwise not have a chance.
For an animal to be considered for our program, they must test negative for heartworms, be current on vaccinations and cats must have a negative feline lukemia/aids test. These tests and vaccinations will need to be completed at the owners expense. Animals who are spayed/neutered are moved up in line for our program. Also, families who are willing to "foster" their own pets-allow them to continue living in their home until a new home is found-are moved up in line. For more details or information give us a call!
The Humane Society has a wonderful spay and neuter voucher program. This program allows citizens of Uvalde an opportunity to have their animals "fixed" at a reduced rate. The actual amount it will cost to have your animal altered depends on the gender, size and if it is a dog or cat-please call Southwest Texas Vet Clinic at 830 278 4441 to get a more accurate cost.
A new program is now in place with special discounts for Uvaldians on Medicaid. When obtaining your voucher, you will need to bring your medicaid letter with you.
If you would like to receive a voucher for your pet, please call 830 591-9229 Vouchers are limited and are primarily for the city of Uvalde, however some vouchers have been set aside for our close neighboors.
All vouchers must be used within 30 days of issue.
