Shiba Inu Rescue of Texas is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming adoptable Shiba Inus in the State of Texas. We are based in Austin, but have volunteers all over the state.
We are not a shelter. Our rescue Shibas are fostered in individual homes until an appropriate adoptive home can be found. Our Shibas are current on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative at the time of adoption. Most of our rescue Shibas come from shelters or are owner releases.
Please note that in most intances, we do not accept Shibas from individuals. We have so few foster homes, we can only take Shibas from shelters who are in imminent danger of being euthanized. We can work with individuals needing to rehome their Shibas, but we have no foster homes.
An Adoption Application must be completed before any home can be considered. The application can be found here: http://sirtx.org/application.html. References are required (preferably pet-related such as a veterinarian, obedience trainer, etc.) and a home visit may be requested prior to finalizing the adoption. We do not operate on a first come-first serve basis, but rather strive to make the best match between the dog and the adopter. We have the benefit of having spent time with the dogs in our homes so we better understand its needs and can determine the home that would be best for that particular dog.
