We want you to look at our Burke. He is such a friendly boy and would just love to have a family of his own. Most people think he is a German Shepherd, but we're pretty sure he is a mix. He's a gentle dog that we won't hesitate to adopt to a family with children. News
Who We Are
Our Humane Society is an all volunteer organization that emphasizes discounted spay/neuter for the pets of low income families. We also have a foster program for our rescued dogs. We are a small rural town that has many, many stray and dumped animals. We do not have a shelter of our own, but try very hard to either rescue and foster adoptable animals that end up at our City kill shelter. Our City works with us to give us precious time to find homes for the most adoptable dogs. Please check out our dogs.
Adopting a friend
We do not use a long, drawn-out adoption application, but ask that you tell us VIA EMAIL in your own words why you like a particular dog and what kind of home environment you will have for it: house/apartment, yard/fence, rent/own, other pets, family/children(ages), have you rescued before, anything that will help us make a good decision for a new home. Pictures of the home enviornment are appreicated.
We do not adopt puppies (under 10 months old) to apartments. Just too much opportunity for things to go wrong. We will adopt a small adult dog to an apartment depending on the dog's personality as we have come to know it. We do not adopt to singles under 21.
Our Adoption Fee varies depending on the situation. Generally, our purebred dogs ard $110 and our mixed breeds are $95. We discount for families in our local area. We will try to help with transport in a 200-mile radius of Coleman by meeting you half-way for a small mileage fee.
Come Visit Us!
Coleman is in West Central Texas about 45 minutes from Abilene (I-20) and about 3-1/2 hours from Dallas, Austin or San Antonio. We're a quiet little town of about 5,000 and easy to find.
