The Bowie Animal Shelter is open every 1st and 2nd Saturday from 8am-3pm and Sunday from 9:30am-1pm.
The Saturday before the 2nd Monday of each month is our official Adoption Day! This is the same weekend as the "2nd Monday Trades Days in Bowie"
We have our own website which can be viewed at www.bowieanimalshelter.org
We are a 501c3 organization that assists the community in many different ways. We provide free spay/neuter service from a low cost clinic, for animals after they have been aopted from the shelter, we have a TNR program, we offer free rabies vaccinations at some of our events, and we help the community by listing their pets that need to be rehomed on our website.
Who We Are
The Bowie Animal Shelter is owned by the city and operated under the police department. The shelter is run by the ACO, Willy Conway.
Adopting a friend
Adoption of animals is open after a seven day wait period to give the owner an opportunity to find their pet. Then the fee is $20 and a rabies shot and spay/neuter is required 30 days after adoption. We are currently seeking additional grants for spay/neutering.
The Bowie City Council recently approved an updated animal ordinance which will require all people adopting an animal from the shelter to sign a legal agreement to spay/neuter the animal and receive their vaccinations.
Come Visit Us!
The shelter is located in Bowie on Hwy 81 N off 287. Volunteers have it open the 1st and 2nd Saturdays of the month during the hours listed above. The animal control officer is available Monday-Friday by appointment from 7am to 3:30 pm. If Willy is not at the shelter, call the police at 940-872-2251.
