The Central Texas SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a private
nonprofit 501(c)3 non-euthanasia (no-kill), limited intake animal shelter, established in
1988. We provide shelter, food, medical care, and adoption services for homeless and
abandoned dogs and cats. These services are funded solely by private donations and
adoption fees. We receive no government funding and are not contracted as animal control
with any local municipality or county. We accept strays as well as owner release animals in
addition to rescuing from local "open-door" (kill) facilities on a space available basis.
At the Central Texas SPCA, we treat our shelter pets with the same love and care we give our
own, and that means providing them regular medical and dental care, monthly heartworm and
flea preventative and annual vaccinations. Our unique shelter provides a homelike
environment that focuses on constantly improving our pets' mental and physical well being to
ensure they remain highly adoptable and happy while waiting for their new, forever families
to find them. You will not find stark metal kennels and harsh environments at the CTSPCA!
Instead, you’ll discover a clean and comfortable environment. Our cats live in
communal condos with poles, window ledges for lounging, plenty of toys, and catwalks to trot about their
habitats. The indoor kennels where our dogs sleep at night and stay indoors during
inclement weather have warm beds to snuggle in and many for their enjoyment. The
outdoor dog areas allow them to buddy up with their favorite canine companion, splash around
in pools, toss about a ball or two, or just hang out in the shade of built-in cabanas. With
supervision, shelter dogs enjoy the freedom of running off-lead individually over two fully
fenced acres during the hours we are closed to the public. This attention to detail and
extra effort makes the CTSPCA a happy way station on the path to Finding Forever
Families(TM).
MICROCHIP SERVICES
It happens... that commando squirrel your dog has been chasing has finally lured your precious pooch out of the yard. How will he get home? Without a microchip, your four-legged family member has less of a chance of getting back to safety. Collars fall off, tags get worn out, but microchipping is forever and can't be lost!
Introducing Microchip Services at the CTSPCA!!
You can have your pet microchipped and registered with a 24Pet Watch Microchip for just $15!
Appointments are required so please call 512-260-7722 to schedule a short, 15-minute appointment to have your pet microchipped. Dogs and cats are welcome. All pets should have proof of current rabies vaccination. Dogs must be on leash and cats must be in a carrier to help minimize chaos.
Don't put off getting your pet this potentially life-saving form of ID!
Give your pet the best chance to get home safely!
The Central Texas SPCA does not euthanize shelter pets to make room for more animals, and we
can only accept animals as size appropriate space is available in either our cat condos or
dog kennels. The CTSPCA regards its no-kill mission seriously. In addition to the
standard release and rescue, we are able to offer a second chance at life to many animals
thanks to our established Special Needs Fund and Foster Care Program. These key elements
provide us the opportunity to rescue the occasional seriously injured or sick animals that
others may discard as "unadoptable". We only face the heart wrenching decision of euthanasia
when it is in the most humane medical interest of the animal as deemed necessary by two
separate veterinary opinions. These opinions are brought before our Special Needs Committee,
comprised of three experienced volunteers, for consideration and a unanimous decision.

WAITING LIST
Because we are no-kill, we often have a waiting list of owners wishing to surrender their
pets for adoption or people that have found strays they would like to place with us rather
than take them to animal control. If you have an animal you would like to add to our waiting
list, you must add them to our on-line waiting list. Go to our website at www.CentralTexasSPCA.org and click on About Us then Waiting List. To remain on the waiting list you must re-enter the information every 30 days. Please
understand that due to the slow adoption rates on larger dogs (over 40 pounds) and adult
cats, the wait could be months. We encourage you to place your pet on as many no-kill and
rescue group waiting lists as possible to increase your chance of finding available space.
Simply visit our website and click on Links or call us at 512-260-SPCA (7722) during visiting hours for a list of other no-kill shelters and rescue groups in your area, along with valuable
tips on how to screen and adopt your pet from home.
We look to the future of the CTSPCA with confidence and believe our unique service of animal
welfare is essential to help control the pet population and increase humane awareness. Your
continued support of our mission and vision is truly significant. The contributions you
provide, whether in the form of donations, volunteer time or foster care is vital to our
existence and growth. If you are not already involved, please consider reaching out and
joining others dedicated to providing hope for so many animals in need. We look forward to
hearing from you. Thank you!
ADOPTING A FRIEND
Prior to adoption, each CTSPCA animal has been tested for heartworms (dogs) or FIV and Feline Leukemia (cats), spayed or neutered, vaccinated (as appropriate to their age), and microchipped. Our adoption fee includes all of these services. Special discount fees may apply for multiple adoptions and animals who have been with us over 1 year. We do have a screening process to ensure each animal goes to a home that best matches its needs and we do not process same day adoptions. Normal screening process takes a few days. We generally process adoptions only within the state of Texas.

Another way to help? We need volunteers to assist with the shelter operations seven days a week. This includes dog walking, cage cleaning, TLC, answering phones, assisting customers, fundraisers, adoption events, maintenance and yard care, and more. Kids age 12-15 may volunteer along side a parent. All at-shelter volunteers must first complete a brief orientation and training before working with the animals. NOTICE!: In the time that it takes you to read this paragraph, a wonderful, adoptable dog or puppy will be euthanized (killed) in a pound or shelter somewhere in the United States. Why? Because there are too many animals and not enough good homes. Please do the right thing and spay or neuter your pets.
