To rescue, care for, and place in permanent loving homes, neglected or unwanted Golden Retrievers and to educate the general public about responsible pet ownership and the special qualities of the Golden Retriever breed in the North Texas area.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption process starts with your filing an Adoption Application. The preferred method of filing, and the fastest way, is to file the application on-line, giving us as much information as possible about your family and life-style. This application can be found at our web site
by clicking on "How to Adopt" The more information we have, the better we can match your requirements with the right dog. If you have seen a dog on the "Available Dogs" portion of the web-site that you would like to meet, please indicate that in your application, realizing that that particular dog may be being considered by other applicants. You will receive an e-mail message within days indicating either your application is acceptable and is being referred to the Adoption Coordinator, asking for further information, or referring you to another rescue organization. Because we thoroughly screen the applications in order to find the families best-suited for each of our uniquely wonderful dogs, be prepared for the process to take some time. The Adoption Coordinator will call you when he/she has identified a good potential match. After the telephone interview, your application will be forwarded to the foster provider who has the dog in his/her home. We believe that the foster provider knows the dog better than any other person at this point, and that person has final discretion on the FOREVER home for his/her dog.
It is our general policy not to place young dogs (under 5) with families who have children under 5. Goldens, who are known to be slow-maturing, are better-suited to fit into a household with young children when they are past the puppy/young adult stages themselves. The Adoption Coordinator can make exceptions to this general policy based on the specific dog under consideration and the dog experience of the family.
In addition to the Adoption Application, adopters will need to read and sign a GRRNT Adoption Agreement. To review and print the agreement, follow the link "Adoption Agreement" on the "How to Adopt" page of our web site.
Please note that we only adopt to applicants in the North Texas area.
