Our Featured Golden...

"Weston and Bear"

We are a cute duo that needs a house full of love. The start to our lives was a little rough but we don't hold it against the two legged friends. Currently, we are on a weight gain plan. Wesson was about 25 pounds under weight and Bear was about 10 pounds off goal. Once our target weight is reached we will be neutered. Unfortunately, Wesson has to undergo heartworm treatment in a few weeks, but after that we will be ready to go. We love children, petting and lots of attention. When you need a break we just find a cool spot to rest till you are ready for more play time. Being in the AC is amazing! Bear generally stays in a crate when the two legged friends are away. Just in case he gets too rowdy. We would like to stay together since we have been through a lot and can depend on each other. We are very playful with each other, kids, and adults.  We both are housebroken, know basic commands and are willing to learn more.   We will warm your heart and your lap. One is good…two is better!

The more people participating, the larger the donation to Golden Retrievers in need.

You can make a difference in the life of a rescued Golden Retriever!

Won't you please open your heart and home, so I can find a real "forever" home?

FOSTER A GOLDEN

There is never an end to Goldens in peril who are rescued by GRRH. Foster homes are the bridge between the Golden Retriever rescued by GRRH and their new adoptive family. Foster homes are incredibly important in helping us to learn about a new dog as well as in providing love, comfort, and obedience training to a Golden who is frequently scared and lost. If you can help foster, even short term, please email us and we can find you a dog that is a good match for your home. We have them in all shapes, sizes, colors, and ages.

Who We Are

Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston (GRRH) is an all-volunteer group dedicated to the rescue and placement of Golden Retrievers in the greater Houston, Texas area. Our mission is to place unwanted Goldens in permanent homes where they will be cared for and loved for a lifetime. We work to rehabilitate Goldens with physical or behavioral needs prior to placement. Each dog and each potential adopter are evaluated to ensure that the dog is placed in the best home possible for both the dog and the individual or family

Adopting a friend

All interested parties must submit an Adoption Application . The Adoption Coordinator or volunteer will review the application, check references and may verify other information provided. An adoption volunteer will contact you to arrange an interview. A home visit may be required. This is done at the discretion of the Adoption Coordinator.

There are cases that warrant automatic disqualification. These include, but are not limited to, the following conditions:

a. Any children under 5 years of age living in the household

b. Refusal to keep the dog as an INSIDE DOG;

c. Unsatisfactory vet or personal references

GRRH dogs are placed only with approved homes. We DO NOT place the dogs on a first come, first serve basis. Our Adoption Coordinator reviews all applications and contacts the approved applicants who best meet the individual needs of each rescue Golden. We strive to meet the needs of BOTH the family and the Golden.

We reserve the right to refuse approval of any applicant that does not meet our requirements.

Following approval of the application, the Adoption Coordinator will contact you when a Golden that is deemed a good match for your family is available.

After discussing the selected Golden with you, and if both you and the Coordinator feel this could be a good match, you will be given the name and phone number of the foster family who is taking care of the dog. You will then call the family, discuss the dog in more detail and if the dog still seems like an appropriate choice for you, you may then make an appointment to visit the dog. Our dogs are never given as "surprise gifts". ALL MEMBERS of the family, particularly children and any dogs living with the family, MUST participate in the visit. We require this to evaluate how well the dog will get along with your children and pets. Again, we can never be too careful with the safety of you, your family and our Goldens.

The foster family is the last safeguard in place and the adoptive family has to gain the approval of the foster family if the Golden is to go home with you. If for any reason the foster family feels this is not a good match, they can suggest another dog or advise you to wait. The foster family has the final say in the adoption process since they know the temperament and characteristics of the dog best.

If THE FOSTER FAMILY indicates their approval, you will be asked for an adoption donation and will be required to sign an Adoption Contract. You will be given a copy of your dog's medical records and will be advised to take your new family member to the vet within two weeks for a check-up. We try our best to make sure that each dog leaves our group parasite and disease free but rarely, a condition may go undetected at the time of adoption. We also ask that your Golden receive a heartworm check within six months just to be sure it is heartworm-free, as a dog can test negative initially, but may test positive 6 months later.
