P.A.W.S. also concentrates on promoting public awareness regarding animal welfare issues, pet health care and most importantly, the necessity of spaying & neutering. We visit local schools, churches, and civic organizations in an effort to educate the public about what they can do to help the nationwide epidemic of pet overpopulation. P.A.W.S. is staffed solely by volunteers and fosters. We are not a shelter and do not have a facility or paid personnel. Animals are fostered in our own homes, while receiving any necessary medical attention and routine vetting, until such a time that a new home can be found for them. All funds received through adoptions are used strictly to support and fund rescues, medical needs, vaccinations, surgeries and food.
We would like to continue to provide a quality environment for the many homeless pets that are brought to us, as well as continue to increase the public awareness regarding animal welfare. We believe that our attempts to place homeless animals into good homes help not only the animal but also provide a new owner with a loving companion and possibly a memorable life experience.
P.A.W.S. purpose is to prevent cruelty to all animals by promoting humane standards through education and example, provide care and shelter for homeless animals, aid in the reduction of domestic animal over- population, aid in the enforcement of laws including the investigation of animal cruelty and abuse. Our main goal is to provide the best possible care for the animals while in our custody and find them new permanent, loving homes.

We recently had to increase our adoption fees due to increase of veterinary care and the large number of dogs which we have to treat for Heartworms.
The adoption fee includes vet exam ($25), Rabies vaccination ($9), DHLPP vaccine ($10), Bordetella ($10), spay & neuter ($80-$125), Heartworm test ($15), Heartworm preventative ($8), flea preventative ($6) and microchipping ($25). If the dog is Heartworm positive, we pay for the treatment ($250-$400).
PAWS of Austin endeavors to keep our adoption fee as low as possible. We would like to express our gratitude to our vets who go above and beyond in their efforts to offer us low cost medical service. This helps us to keep our expenses minimal and adoption fees are lower than most other rescue organizations.
The adoption fees that we charge help us to recover some of our rescue expenses, however the expense necessary to ensure that all of our animals are fully vaccinated, tested and treated (if necessary) for Heartworms, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and well nourished while in rescue far exceeds the adoption fees. Also, many of the dogs that are brought into our rescue are in need of additional veterinary care as a result of previous abuse and neglect. It is our mission to ensure that our animals are both happy and healthy before they make the transition into their new forever home.
We hope that this will help you understand the need for our adoption fees. We would not be able to continue to rescue dogs, and save innocent lives, without charging an adoption fee.
