Who We Are

The City of Weatherford-Parker County Animal Shelter is a joint venture between the City of Weatherford and Parker County. Because we are a municipal shelter, our space fills up quickly. We take in an average of over 100 animals each week. We have 102 dog kennels, a cat room with several kitty condos, and a room for puppies and small breed dogs. We update Petfinder each week with pictures of all the available pets, but since they come in daily, there are usually more pets than what you will see here. You are welcome to call or visit us to see all of the adoptable animals.

Mobile Adoption Events

Parker Paws, a volunteer group for the shelter, was at Petsmart on June 20 and found homes for 6 of our foster dogs.

We had the adoption trailer at Jerry's Chevrolet in Weatherford on May 30 at their Customer Appreciation Day. We had our best adoption day with 15 pets finding new homes! Our thanks to the staff at Jerry's for being such gracious hosts and helping us promote these sweet pets. Several of our foster dogs were among the adopted, so that our foster volunteers could take home more dogs from the shelter and give them more time.

The adoption events are conducted by volunteers, their help is invaluable. Please see below at Volunteering and Donations if you would like to join us. Thank you!

We'll be having adoption events indoors as much as possible during the worst of this summer heat, please watch this page as we plan our next event. Thank you!

Building Improvement Project

In 2004 two local business men generously offered to match up to $40,000 if the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter could raise $40,000 to start off a much needed building improvement project. Through generous community support the shelter has raised over $400,000.
Building plans include the remodel/reconstruction of two of the older kennels and erecting a new kennel and office, providing a new surgical facility.

All three buildings are now complete and in use! Our deepest thanks to the generous donors who made them possible.

Adopting a friend

You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt an animal. Adoption fees are only $85.00 for a female dog, $75.00 for a male dog, and $55.00 for each cat. The fee includes spay or neuter of the animal; plus rabies, parvo, and distemper vaccinations, as well as some additional feline vaccinations. It also includes micro-chipping. What a GREAT deal for a new best friend!!

Volunteering and Donations

Parker Paws is a 501c3 non-profit group created to support the animals at the shelter. It is an all-volunteer organization. Volunteers are needed to assist with our offsite Mobile Adoptions, walk, socialize, and bathe/groom animals at the shelter, as well as taking pictures for Petfinder. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and have a clear criminal background. You may come to the shelter to fill out an application or download an application here, and mail it to us at 403 Hickory Lane, Weatherford, Texas 76086. Thank you!
