"LOOKIN' FOR LOVE" ANIMAL RESCUE
LOOKIN' FOR LOVE ANIMAL RESCUE
WHO WE ARE
Lookin' For Love was founded by me, Thecia Taylor, and is truly a labor of love. I have rescued all of my adult life...it's my all consuming passion and obsession. We rescue from the local pound, taking as many as possible into the rescue program, while trying to help others by networking with other rescues/rescuers, all over the state, and even the country. The Rockport facility is very small and, stays full, to overflowing. The animals there are living on borrowed time, and are in desperate need of homes (foster or adoptive), before it is too late for them. They can only be held for a very limited time, before being destroyed. Please note that, because we stay full with animals rescued from the local pound, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO TAKE IN PETS FOUND BY THE PUBLIC, OR OWNER SURRENDERS. We are happy, however, to courtesy post pictures/info on such pets, in an effort to help rehome them.
Any animal, featured on this website, whose "name" begins with the word "Pound" is one which is being housed at Aransas County Animal Control (in Rockport), not with Lookin' For Love Animal Rescue, and is, therefore, in danger of being euthanized. (Please note that we DO NOT have ANY AFFILIATION WITH NOR ANY CONTROL OVER, the pound, their policies and procedures, including euthanasia schedules and practices).
Aransas County Animal Control (Rockport pound) has now relocated to their new facility, located on Airline Road. If you are in the Rockport area, you may make arrangements to view animals there by calling 361-790-0151. The fee to adopt a pet, directly from the pound, is $30, which includes sterilization (spaying/neutering); $15 of this fee is refundable upon sterilization being completed. Please remember that the pound does not provide any other type of veterinary services for these animals so, you should take you're newly adopted pound pet to a veterinarian, as soon as possible, for an exam and any necessary medical care, including shots and heart worm testing/preventative.
If you live outside the Rockport area, but are interested in adopting a pet which is being housed at the pound, you may do so through Lookin' For Love, according to our standard adoption requirements and procedures (see below).
WE ADOPT ALL OVER THE STATE OF TEXAS, NOT JUST IN THE IMMEDIATE ROCKPORT AREA. WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF STATE.
LIMITED TRANSPORT ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE.
Those animals featured on our website, with names, have been rescued from the pound, are being fostered, by Lookin' For Love, and will remain so, until adopted. We are strictly
NO KILL. The website is updated daily, so any animal appearing on it is currently available for adoption.
WE DO NOT HAVE A FACILITY WHICH OPENS TO THE PUBLIC FOR VIEWING OF OUR PETS. The animals in our program are housed at private residences.
OUR ADOPTION PROCESS
You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt a pet from Lookin' For Love Animal Rescue.
We don't make introductions, prior to the completion of an application and home visit. The reason for this is simple: If our basic requirements for adoption are not met, there is no point in meeting the pet and, we cannot ascertain this until an application has been submitted, and a home visit completed.
We also require a vet check, if you currently have other pets, to ensure that they are current on vaccines, are on heart worm prevention, and have been sterilized (spayed/neutered).
WE DO NOT ADOPT TO HOMES WITH PETS WHO ARE NOT STERILIZED AND CURRENT ON HEARTWORM PREVENTION AND VACCINATIONS.
Following a favorable home visit, the pet is placed in the prospective adoptive home, on a "trial basis" for up to a one week period. This is to ensure that there is a good "fit'" between pet and adoptive family, something that can't usually be ascertained in a brief meeting. If the trial placement goes well, the adoption is finalized with an adoption contract.
Please keep in mind that, while our adoptive process may sound like "jumping through a lot of hoops" to some people, most of our rescued pets have been bounced around for much of their lives, prior to being rescued so, it is our utmost goal to ensure that a pet's adoptive family will be truly be his or her "forever" home and, our process is designed to ensure this by trying to make the best possible match of pet to person.
OUR ADOPTION FEES
The adoption fees for our pets vary, as adoption fees are based on the amount of veterinary work they have had, at the time of adoption. Typically, the adoption fee for a fully vetted pet (current on shots, heart worm negative, and sterilized) is $95. All pets MUST be sterilized, either prior to adoption, or as soon as they are old enough (in the case of puppies) after adoption. Adopters must sign a contract agreeing to this and, failure to comply will result in the pet being reclaimed by Lookin' For Love.
