Dedicated to all the not-so-perfect animals

The Pet List is a privately operated rescue organization that specializes in special needs animals. We may or may not ask an adoption fee, depending on the situation and the animal for adoption. Donations are always welcome and are used for the care of the animals.
Visit our site to see what animals we have available and ask us if there is a particular animal you are seeking. Sometimes there are some who are not up on the site even though they are available to the right home and sometimes we are listing a pet for another rescue or private owner.
You will be required to fill out an application and you will need a vet reference. It is best that you know something about the needs of the animal you are interested in adopting, so feel free to email us and request more information. We can usually refer you to websites that can give you plenty of background for the issues of the animal in question.
Some disabilities are very mild and require little effort on your part and some are highly work-intensive. Some may not cost any more than an ordinary animal and others may require a costly upkeep or even a surgery. We ask that you adopt with the intent of keeping the animal for the rest of it's life. However if your living circumstances change drastically, we do take back any animal that we adopted out.
Those really SPECIAL special needs
The thing that is so wonderful about these animals is you just won't see any self-pity. These animals have a 'can-do' approach to life regardless of how unfortunate their disability is. They are affectionate and smart and have loads of love to give. If you are interested, contact us at The Pet List., pet.list@yahoo.com..
DROP OFF FEES AND DONATIONS
We will do a free courtesy listing for a special needs animal for one month.
Elderly (Senior) Cats, over ten years old: $500. donation which includes care for the rest of the cat's life.
FELV or FIV positive cats, $500. donation
Cats with other illnesses or defects: the drop off fee will depend upon the projected cost of care for the animal on an individual basis.
SHIPPING POLICY: We do not ship animals, nor do we send our animals on multi-leg transports. Out-of-state adopters MUST come pick up their animal(s) and transport them back home and accompany the animal when doing so.
OUR APPLICATION PROCESS: You will be asked to give some information about yourself before an adoption can occur. This application is not meant to be invasive, but to allow us to assist with placing an animal with the right home. We also require three references, of which one must be an animal care specialist, such as a vet, professional dog trainer (if you are adopting a dog) or professional horse trainer(if you are adopting a horse). Only persons over the age of 21 can adopt without parental consent. Apartment dwellers and renters must have permission from their landlord for this adoption as well. If the animal is going to be a gift, the recipient must be the person to apply, unless he or she is a child. Let us know this information, including your valid telephone number and address to begin your adoption proceedings.

"We are posting our contract here for two reasons, one is for persons who would like to adopt and are concerned about the paperwork involved and the second for those who have adopted and have misplaced their paperwork. If for some reason a contract had never been signed, this is still our adoption criteria, publically available and according to our by-laws.
OUR ADOPTION CONTRACT
1. Under no circumstances will this animal be sold, leased or given away to any pet shop, pound, research laboratory or similar facility. If the animal must be given up The Pet List must be notified. Any cat adopted from this rescue will be taken back, however there will be no refund given for the animal. 2. This cat/kitten will be kept indoors, on a leash, or in a cat-safe enclosure and will not be exposed to extreme temperatures or weather. This animal will not be allowed to roam freely outside. 3. This cat/kitten is being adopted as a pet and will be owned by the person named above and signed below. 4. All adopted pets not yet spayed/neutered must be altered (castrate or spay) before the age of 6 months and proof of this must be sent to the address below within this time limit. Adopter further agrees that this animal will not be used for stud or breeding. 5. I understand that although this animal has been in a protected environment, there is the possibility of unrecognized illness appearing after an adoption is finalized, especially because of the stress the animal may experience during the first few days at its new home. The rescuer advises adopters of the animal’s known history and provide its medical records, but frequently we know only what the animal chooses to tell us. We cannot make any guarantee regarding the long-term health of any animal and therefore we are not responsible for any vet costs incurred after this animal leaves our care. 6. The rescue agrees that if this animal should die or must be euthanized within 6 weeks of adoption, the animal will be replaced only if the rest of this contract has been adhered to. A veterinary statement must accompany any such request including cause of death. Accidental deaths are not covered by this guarantee and this includes drowning, crushing, attack by another animal or human, death due to fire or smoke, freezing, suffocating, and poisoning or other act of cruelty. Death from flea products or other products not specifically designed for kittens will be considered poisoning. If this animal is found to be mistreated or declawed after adoption, adopter agrees to surrender said animal to the above named rescue unconditionally. 7. If another animal is adopted by the same party at a later date, or if the above animal is replaced for any reason, the name of the new animal will be added to this contract and no further contract will be necessary as this one will remain binding for all animals owned by the person stated above and signed below and adopted from this rescue. 8. It is advised that the adopter has said animal examined by a qualified veterinarian and the adopter is encouraged to sign up for the Shelter Care insurance plan available with this pet at Petfinder.com. I agree to inform the above named adoption agency of any health problems if and as soon as any arise. 9. My current cats have had and are up-to-date on their yearly (fvcrpc & rabies) vaccinations. 10. The adopter agrees not to hold the adoption agency/rescue responsible for any illness, disease or charges for treatment of the animal nor for any damages for which the animal may do to any person or property. The rescue named above will not be responsible for any debts or charges incurred for veterinary services or private veterinarians for the adopted animal.
