City of Lewisville Animal Shelter
Our featured pets are avaliable for adoption on a
'first come, first serve' basis. If more than one person wants the same animal at the same time a drawing will be held. All pets are subject to previous placement.
*** Please visit the City of Lewisville Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.***
Our grand opening was June 30, 2012. We are located at 995 E. Valley Ridge.
Our facility is 14,700-square-foot building with amenities that include a “get-to-know” room, “get-to-know” courtyard, cat colony area, new kitten and puppy area, training room, customer-friendly viewing cages and grooming area.
The new shelter is located on 2.5 acres near the banks of the Trinity River, across from the north entrance of Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park and in easy walking distance from the Lewisville Dog Park. The building is roughly three times the size of the city's current animal shelter, which was built in the early 1970s.
The project was designed by Quorum Architects of Fort Worth. Construction cost of $4.5 million came from city reserve funds.
A new Public Donation Program also will be launched in support of the city’s mission to provide better animal care, such as vaccine programs and improved vet care for sick and injured animals. A public volunteer program is also in place at the new shelter. ****

Who We Are
We are the City of Lewisville Municipal Animal Services and Shelter. Our mission is to openly and responsively preserve and enhance the quality of life for our diverse community through highly-valued, effective municipal services.
Adopting a friend
When adopting a pet the adopter will sign an adoption agreement. The agreement states they are at least 18 years of age; that the animal is to be spayed/neutered within 30 days or at 6 months of age; also that the animal be vaccinated against rabies as required by State and City code. The total cost to adopt ranges from $50.00 - $75.00 depending on residency.
EFFECTIVE AUGUST 30, 2010
ANIMAL ADOPTION PROCEDURES
In order to ensure compliance with Texas State Law, Chapters 826 and 828 of the Health and Safety Code, which require all adopted shelter animals to be vaccinated for rabies and to be sterilized, Lewisville Animal Services is implementing the following procedures for every adoption.
*Adult Dogs or Cats (Four months or older):
Once you have selected an animal, a Lewisville Animal Control Officer will deliver your new pet to a participating veterinarian of your choice within the Lewisville City limits to be examined, altered (spayed or neutered) and receive a rabies vaccination. You will then pick up your new pet from the veterinarian’s office and take him/her home with you and the Adoption Agreement will be complete.
*Puppies & Kittens:
If you have selected an animal younger than four (4) months of age, then a Lewisville Animal Control Officer will deliver your new pet to a participating veterinarian of your choice within the Lewisville City limits to be examined by the veterinarian and for the doctor to confirm age, health status, and due date of sterilization and rabies vaccination. You will then pick up the young animal from the veterinarian and will be fully responsible for returning the animal for the required sterilization surgery and rabies vaccination as of the due date listed on the contract. Any violation of this contract will result in citations being issued and fines of up to $500 per violation.
*Previously Altered and/or Vaccinated Dogs and Cats:
In some cases an animal may already be altered by a previous owner. If Animal Services has proof of this, then the animal will still be delivered by a Lewisville Animal Control Officer to a local participating veterinarian to receive a rabies vaccination. You will then pick the animal up from the veterinarian's office and the Adoption Agreement will be complete.
If Lewisville Animal Services has proof that the animal has already been sterilized AND vaccinated for rabies, then you only pay the adoption fee and you take the new pet home directly from the shelter at the time of adoption.
State and City Code requires that dogs, cats and ferrets be vaccinated against rabies by 4 months of age. The very first rabies vaccination your pet receives is valid for 1 year. Rabies vaccinations received by your pet after the initial vaccination are valid for 1 year or 3 years depending upon the type of vaccine your veterinarian used.
