East Lake Pet Orphanage
Our Mission
Since 2001, thousands of dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, pigs, and chickens have been matched and placed in permanent and loving homes. East Lake Pet Orphanage has been connecting people and pets for the mutual enrichment of life by providing medical care, surgical care, a warm place to stay, love, and attention that our team and volunteers pour into every homeless pet that enters through our doors.
East Lake Pet Orphanage is a 501(C)(3) non-profit, no-kill shelter in East Dallas. We do not receive any state or city funding, and instead, rely on the support of private donors. We are volunteer driven, and none of our Board of Directors or devoted Veterinarians accepts a salary for the work they do to help the homeless pets.
Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from East Lake Pet Orphanage. Adoption is one of the most meaningful and rewarding decisions you will ever make. We work hard to make the best possible matches between pets and people for the mutual enrichment of life. We also understand that sometimes unforeseeable situations occur. If for any reason, an adoption is not successful, a pet may be brought back to us within 30 days, at which time the adoption fee is donated.  The one time adoption fee for adults is $195. In celebration of Adopt a Cat Month in June, we offer a $50 Adopt a Cat special for our adult cats during the summer! Kittens and puppies are $225.
Adopted pets receive:
- Veterinary examination
- Health assessment
- Nutritional assessment
- Spay / Neuter surgery
- Microchipping
- Intestinal parasite screening
- Deworming
- Age appropriate vaccinations
- Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids testing (cats only)
- Behavioral assessment
Application Submission: The first step in your path to adoption is to submit an application. Even if an application is pending for a particular orphan, we encourage you to also submit your application since circumstances of a potential adopter may change, or we may determine that an alternative match for a pet may be more suitable.Â
Application Verification: The next step is the application verification which is initiated within 3 -7 days after submitting an application. Time to complete an application verification will vary depending on the response time of references.  Applications are often simultaneously received on site, on line, and at events, so the adoption process is not strictly based on first come, first served.Â
Adoption Approval:  Adoption matches are based on what is deemed best for both the adopter and the pet, and having complete, accurate, and verifiable information on the application. While date of application submission is given priority, it does not guarantee approval. When an application is approved, notification is received by email or phone.Â
Don't see your best friend? No Problem! The pets pictured here represent a partial selection of orphans needing homes. Adoptions & intakes happen very quickly so we encourage you to send us your application now to tell us who you are looking for.  We collaborate with a number of kill shelters and other rescue groups to save lives. Through our networking we are often able to acquire breeds or types of pets to meet your specific needs. We believe that it truly "takes a village" to do the work we do and together we are able to save more lives and do more good.Â
