GENERAL INFO

We are the municipal (City taxpayer-funded) Animal Control Shelter for the City of League City. Please note that we are not a rescue facility.

NEWS

If you are interested in adopting a pet as a gift, please plan ahead.  Consider giving a  "Pet Promise Certificate" (like a Gift certificate),  and allow the  person to select their new pet.  Just go to http://www.petfinder.com/pet-adoption/pet-adoption-information/petpromise/

PLEASE DONATE! We have a regular need for CANNED CAT and KITTEN FOOD, and DOGGIE BEDDING! We receive generous donations from the community, but we are short in these areas. The best bedding isn't too bulky, because it is difficult to launder (we have only one washing machine and one dryer!). Bedding that is THICK BUT FLAT is best - like rubber-backed bathroom rugs, or those flat beds with low padded bumpers all around. Volunteers have bought us some inexpensive ones recently, from Target - they're always on the lookout for good deals ;-) You can drop donations by the Shelter anytime we are open. You can also request a donation receipt at the front desk. THE KITTIES and DOGGIES say THANK YOU! :-[)

OLDER POSTS

May 2007 - The City Council of League City approved funding for a MUCH-NEEDED Shelter expansion!

COME OUT FOR A VISIT! You can pet the cats, and walk the dogs on a leash! We are OPEN LATE, until 6 pm, three days a week! Our hours are Tuesday - Thursday 10 am - 6 pm, and Friday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm. You can visit with the animals right up until closing, but KEEP IN MIND that if you decide to adopt, adoption paperwork must be started no later than 1/2 hour before closing time. We are CLOSED Sunday and Monday.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

League City Animal Shelter is always in need of volunteers. If you are 16 or over, and have just a few hours to donate, it will make the difference for a homeless animal.

If you would like to be involved in the Volunteer Program, please come by the shelter, and ask for Jasmine. Help is needed in areas such as: Adoption Counselor, Clerical Assistance, Animal Companion (dog walking and cat petting), Grooming, Fostering, and Much More!

LOST PET?

We are the Impound facility (Shelter) for the Animal Control services of the city of League City, Texas.

Please keep your animal leashed or secured. If your pet is lost in League City, please come IMMEDIATELY to our Shelter and physically view the animals. NOT all animals are pictured here. We only post them here for adoption AFTER the "hold" time (time awaiting an owner) has passed. Remember, ONLY YOU can identify YOUR pet. ID Tags help, and a City License is required by City Ordinance (for dogs and cats)!

You can get a City License here at the Shelter, at City Hall water billing, or most League City Veterinarians. You must show proof of current rabies vaccination (the Rabies Certificate from the Vet). The fee is $4 annually. However - If you show documentation that your pet is neutered/spayed, the License is FREE!

DISCOUNT Spay-Neuter Information

Please help keep the homeless pet population down, and reduce behavior problems in your pets. Have all your pets spayed and neutered. Here is information on DISCOUNT SPAY-NEUTER locations: Long Drive Dog & Cat Hospital, 713-643-0633 http://www.longdrivedogcat.com; Animal Alliance Clinic, http://www.animalalliancetx.org; SNAP Pasadena 713-343-1700 http://www.snapus.org/pasadena; and Houston Humane Society, http://www.houstonhumane.org (click on Clinic).

DISCOUNT Heartworm Treatment (for dogs)

The discount spay-neuter locations above, ALSO offer DISCOUNT HEARTWORM TREATMENT. If any dog you have adopted from ANYWHERE turns out to be heartworm-positive, these clinics will treat heartworms for a few hundred dollars, vs. hundreds more at most private Vets.

Adopting a friend

Our shelter has an Adoption Application, and a standard adoption fee of $75, cash or check only. This fee INCLUDES a one-year rabies vaccination, spay/neuter surgery, and also includes the (Found Animals brand) microchip and lifetime registration. SUCH A DEAL! All dogs and cats old enough for surgery can remain at the Shelter until sterilized. All pets too young for surgery, will be just microchipped, and adopted out under an Adoption Contract. You still pay the $75 fee, because you pre-pay us for the neuter surgery and rabies shot. You may bring them back to be neutered and vacc'd for rabies, within 30 days of adoption, or by the date set in your contract. You may also take them elsewhere for this, at your own expense. Proof of this being done MUST be supplied to the shelter, by the date set in your contract. This is REQUIRED by State law, so the City authorities enforce this with citations if you do not comply.

PLEASE NOTE: The City budget DOES NOT COVER VET EXAMS OR TREATMENT for these animals. Each adopted animal needs at least one complete Veterinary exam (including fecal), within about a week of adoption.

PLEASE NOTE: Our Shelter DOES NOT SHIP ANIMALS. You must come IN PERSON to sign for, adopt, and take home your new pet.

Wish List

You can help the Shelter animals by providing extras that are not provided by City tax dollars. When our animals LOOK and FEEL BETTER, they have an easier time making a good "first impression", and are more likely to get adopted!
These needed extras include:
1) Light- or Bright-colored BUCKLE-type dog collars (NOT clickable plastic-latch-type - some of these pull apart too easily!)
2) Light- or Bright-colored cat collars
3) Regular CAT LITTER for Shelter kitties, Scooping cat litter for kitties in foster care with volunteers
4) "Advantage," "Frontline" or "Capstar" (any size, dog or cat) for treatment of fleas.
5) Washable (plastic or rubber) dog and cat toys. Over 3-inch-diameter dog toys can be given to the doggies IN THEIR KENNELS, for hours of fun. Smaller toys can only be given to the dogs when outside, or they could clog the drains.
6) Kitten and Puppy Milk Replacer - such as Just Born, KMR and Esbilac, for orphan kittens and puppies that need to be bottle-fed. This gets expensive, and it is a burden for some foster parents to cover the cost of this formula.
7) CANNED cat and dog food, canned puppy and kitten food - the Shelter has little budget for canned food for the animals, so the majority is donated. Many animals are stressed in a Shelter environment, and need canned food to stimulate their appetite. Some puppies and kittens are very young and barely of weaned age, so they, of course, need canned food on a daily basis.
THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF THE HOMELESS SHELTER ANIMALS!
