Who We Are:
Austin German Shepherd Rescue (AGSR) is a (501(c)3 not-for-profit
private organization dedicated to providing rescue services, rehabilitating
and finding suitable, loving homes for homeless, abused and unwanted German Shepherd Dogs in Austin & the surrounding CenTex area.
AGSR is a group of
volunteers, animal lovers like yourselves; volunteers with a shared
mission -- to care for and protect, adopt out, and keep German Shepherd Dogs
safe from harm
whenever possible.
What Care Do Our GSDs receive?
The first order of business for each dog brought into the program is the
Veterinarian's office. The dogs are immunized, fecal checked, heartworm
tested, and are examined for obvious injuries or other health problems. They
are checked and treated for fleas, mites, and external parasites. It is also
determined whether or not they have been spayed or neutered (most usually
not!)If not, they are scheduled for surgery. By the time one of our dogs
leaves for its forever home, it has been spayed/neutered, is current on
vaccinations, has been (and shall remain!) on heartworm preventative.
The second order of business is to assess the dogs' personality, behavior
and temperament so we may know what type of foster home to best place them
in, a home where they will enjoy socializing with humans and usually other
animals as well. If they have been sickly or starved emotionally, this is
the time in which they are nursed back to health and begin to learn to trust
people again. In order to be sure of temperament, each of our dogs are home
fostered. Our foster caregivers work on housebreaking, if required, and
basic manners as well. The foster family will then be able to discuss the
dog's personality with a prospective approved adopter. One of our goals is to try to
match the personality of the dog with the people and their home and
lifestyle.
Adopting a Friend:
It is our mission ~&~ purpose to match our misplaced ~&~ displaced GSDs with loving, forever families.
It is also important to us to view each dog as a unique individual regarding
temperament, life's experiences, and level of ability -- and then help you
decide which personality type and energy level are best suited to your
lifestyle.
Equally important, we want every applicant to understand the
responsibilities involved in caring properly for our Shepherds. Adoption is
a lifetime commitment and many dogs can live 12-plus years. German Shepherds
typically bond very tightly with their human family and need to be treated
as a member of the family.
The best kind of adopter will make one of our dogs a full-fledged member of
their pack; treat him or her with love, respect, and dignity; and help him
or her to blossom and grow into a loving, trusting ambassador for this
wonderful breed.
Adoption is a commitment for life. Are you ready to make this
commitment?

I will respond to you....
Rescue me not out of pity but out of love.
I will love you back....
Rescue me not with self-righteousness but with compassion.
I will learn what you teach....
Rescue me not because of my past but because of my future.
I will relax and enjoy....
Rescue me not simply to save me but to give me a new life.
I will appreciate your gift....
Rescue me not only with a firm hand but with tolerance and
patience.
I will please you....
Rescue me not only because of who I am but who I'm to become
I will grow and mature....
Rescue me not to revere yourself to others but because you want me.
I will never let you down....
Rescue me not with a hidden agenda but with a desire to teach me to trust.
I will be loyal and true....
Rescue me not to be chained or to fight but to be your companion.
I will stand by your side....
Rescue me not to replace one you've lost but to soothe your
spirit.
I will cherish you....
Rescue me not to be your pet but to be your friend.
I will give you unconditional love....

Volunteering ~&~ Donations:
AGSDR depends on your donations to pay veterinary expenses and to provide
care for rescued GSDs. All donations collected go directly to fulfill that
need. Everyone involved in AGSDR rescue efforts works on
a volunteer basis.
Remember that all financial donations are tax deductible! Should you wish to
donate to AGSDR, please make your check out to "Austin German Shepherd Dog Rescue" and
mail it to: P.O.Box 339, Manor, TX 78653.
Don't forget to include a
return address so that we can send you a receipt for tax purposes -- and our
greatest appreciation!!
What Can You Do?
Contribute:
Whether your contribution is $1 or $1,000 -- every cent goes to help
German Shepherd Dogs in need of rescue, and to educate the public (so hopefully one day there will be fewer dogs in need of rescue...).
Can You Give a (Temporary or Permanent) Home to One of AGSDR's German Shepherd Dogs-in Need?:
They have so much love to give back to you!
Consider a Donation...or Two?:
Unfortunately, rescue efforts for such a popular breed as the German Shepherd Dog easily deplete available resources all too quickly. But its not just finances that are oft not a concern when a rescue worker lays her head on the pillow at night (with a few *extra* fourleggers reminding her or him of the importance of the effort, hours, dedicated mission)...donations of food and other items, such as toys, collars & leads, flea & tick preventative, just to name a few, are always, always, always welcomed -- and put to great use!! Usually I-M-M-E-D-I-A-T-E-L-Y !!!
Can You Consider Becoming the Sponsor of a GSD-in-Need?
Are You Willing To
Help?
Would you like to be one of our foster parent volunteers? Would you
like to help with marketing and fundraising, help to screen applicants,
review applications? The list of ways we need your helping hands is one of
endless possibilities, but
"100 Ways" is a great list to ponder.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!****
Did we mention before??... The need for caring volunteers is great! There is a myriad of things needed to keep AGSDR operating and allow us to take in, foster, treat, board, and adopt out the Shepherds that are in our care, and who are yet to come. We need people to transport dogs and/or supplies, assist at Adoption Days, organize events, perform administrative functions and many other critical tasks. If you would like to volunteer, please send an E-mail to
Email Us to request a Volunteer Form. .
Volunteering with AGSDR can be a rewarding experience, but don't take our word for it! Please, come join us and discover the rewards of helping a GSD in need. In the process, you'll be guaranteed to discover and enjoy new friends -- both fourleggers and twoleggers alike!
Even If only one of these ways that you could help us help them appeals to
you, please let us hear from YOU!!
We, the Volunteers of AGSDR, hope that our continuous dedication,
devotion and love for the welfare of homeless German Shepherd dogs and
puppies warrant YOUR SUPPORT!
