Shelter News:
Lots of beautiful dogs and cats who deserve a chance at a good life! Come by or call the shelter today. Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome! Donations are always accepted here at the animal shelter. Our wish list includes toys for the cats and dogs, dog treats, Stainless Steel Bowls, Leashes, Collars and kennels.
The overpopulation situation at the Canton Animal Shelter continues to be URGENT. Good homes for our animals is a must. Please do your part, help spread the word about the wonderful animals in our shelter.
Litters of kittens and puppies are arriving daily at alarming rates. Please come visit if you are looking for a companion or would like to volunteer for the animals. Playing with the dogs and cats will lessen their loneliness and increase their adoption appeal.
Volunteering an hour a week to brush the dogs and cats would make them feel better, look more attractive and be more adoptable.
Canton Animal Shelter LOVES rescues. Please contact us if you see someone on this list who you can take into your rescue organization.
SAVE A LIFE - SPAY & NEUTER YOUR PET. ADOPT FROM A SHELTER OR RESCUE.
Florescent lights have also been installed along with sky lights to cut down on electricity bills on sunny days.
All pens are built with double Department of Defense expxy with a minimum of two coats polyurethane sealer. The puppy pens have three coats to help prevent and control diseases.
The kennels will also include automatic 100% stainless steel waterers which will not harbor bacteria.
Kennels are now required to have air and heat so there are units which five or six times a day will change the air out to reduce kennel cough. There are also three 10 by 10 and one roll up door for fresh air.
Also there is a concrete RV pad with a site for water and sewer. This was installed in hopes that it will attract low cost spay and neuter clinics to the area.
The animal shelter Animal Control Officer is Tom Perry and the ACO/Shelter Manager is LaDeania Jones.
Adoption fees are $25. for dogs and cats plus cost of spay and neuter. Donations of time, money, referrals, transport, supplies, etc. are always welcome.
Because of the tremendous turnover of pets, if you are searching for a new companion we recommend you bookmark this site and check back daily for new additions. Better yet, COME VISIT us at the shelter. We have so many great dogs and cats, its impossible to post them all here.
If you have a specific breed you are looking for, please contact us so we can call you if a dog matching your specifications is surrendered to the shelter.
Our goal is to rehome as many dogs and cats as possible. Help us by spreading the word about our animals, volunteering in training or fostering, and educate others on spaying and neutering to help prevent more unwanted pets.
NEW ADOPTION FEES EFFECTIVE 10-01-04
Mandatory City adoption fees for animals at the Canton Animal shelter are $25.00. If you relinquish your animal to the shelter there is a fee of $20.00 per animal for city residents. Strays may be turned in to the shelter for free. County residents will be charged $30.00 for animals brought in, either their own pets or strays. These costs do not begin to cover the actual operating costs of the shelter but do help.
If you are turning in an animal and wish to give them the best possible chance of adoption, please consider spaying or neutering them first. Vaccinations for puppies in particular will help ensure their protection from disease in the shelter environment, as well as make them more adoptable. OR a donation of any size towards their medical care would be greatly appreciated. Please bring any paperwork you may have with you when you turn them in. Any vet work completed on a shelter dog or cat will increase its chances of adoption!
We hope the people of Canton will come visit us at our new shelter, see our wonderful pets available, and in the coming year, Watch Us Grow!
If your dog is lost, call us and we will take a description of the dog and watch for him. Or you can bring us a picture for I.D. purposes. Our goal is to get as many dogs back home as we can, or place them in new homes.
