Who We Are
The Houston Humane Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to eliminating the cruelty, abuse and overpopulation of animals. The HHS receives no federal, state or city funding and relies solely on donations and profits from fundraisers. We offer a variety of services to Houston-area residents including pet adoptions, acceptance of all animals, pet burials and low cost spay/neuter ($30) clinic, reduced-cost vaccinations and microchipping.
Adopting a friend
The Houston Humane Society strongly believes that to spay or neuter one is to prevent the unfortunate deaths of countless others. The adoption process is as follows. The adopters must complete an application (which will be reviewed by an adopiton counselor) and also go through an interview. Each applicant who finds a pet at HHS will have a 3-5 day waiting period before introducing them to their new home. During this time the HHS will alter, vaccinate, heartworm test (canines), leukemia test (felines)and bathe the animal prior to leaving the shelter. A family can be complete with a loving pet from HHS for only $85.
