MEET AND GREET DAYS

Forgotten Friends - Mixed Breed Rescue holds meet and greet days at the Petco on Great Hills Trail in Austin, Texas. Please visit the Events page of our website for adoption dates and times. Adoptions are limited to residents of the Greater Austin area. No out-of-state adoptions are allowed. All animals are spayed/neutered prior to placement in their adoptive homes; for this reason, puppies cannot go to their new homes until they are 12 weeks old. Read more about our adoption process.

WHO WE ARE

Forgotten Friends is a 501c(3) Austin-based rescue group that was started in 1997 ago to help reduce the number of sweet, loving dogs that die everyday in area shelters for lack of a committed home. We are supported solely by volunteers and donations from the community.

Puppies and dogs enter our program from area shelters and stay at a private mini shelter until foster homes become open or new fosters sign on, then the dogs are transferred out to the foster for training before going to new families. If there are no available fosters, the dogs reside at the shelter until they are adopted.

Our commitment to the potential adopter and to our dogs, is to screen all applications carefully to find the very best match between the needs of the adopter and our dog.

ABOUT OUR DOGS

Forgotten Friends dogs are rescued from local area animal shelters. All dogs are heartworm negative, spayed or neutered and current on age-specific vaccinations and heartworm preventative before they are adopted. For more information about our dogs, visit the Adults or Puppies or Seniors section(s) of our website. Statistically black dogs, Senior dogs, and larger dogs wait much longer for their forever homes and sadly are often never chosen from amoung all the younger, smaller and "flashier" puppies and dogs available in shelters and rescue groups. Please check out these wonderful dogs on our site and consider being their special guardian angel!

Our adopted dogs are eligible for:

Two weeks of free puppy classes and $25 off of any puppy or adult classes at Buddy's Chance

A free Puppergarten class with Natalie McMahon, CPDT and $10 off a group class at Urbandawgy

BUILDING FUND 2008

PLEASE HELP US GIVE OUR RESCUED DOGS PERMANENT SHELTER!

Presently the majority of our rescued dogs and puppies stay in outside chain link kennels with gravel base and igloos all year long. We really want to build them a nice building where they will be comfortable during their stay here while awaiting their new forever home. Can you help?

We originally wanted to build a very large building on a slab but the amount needed has proved to be prohibitive. So, we have opted for two Affordable Portable buildings, one for medium to larger dogs and one for puppies and smaller dogs.

The proposed costs will exceed $35,000. The sooner we can raise the funds, the sooner the buildings can be built to provide for our dog's comfort!

1/9/2008 - FIRST STEP!! We have finally raised enough to order the first part of our new shelter. The initial building will be small, but warm and dry, so that we can get our most vulnerable rescues out of the weather. Kennels will be set up inside for the dogs who are recovering from injury, puppies and small dogs. They will have an outside area to play and exercise.

Phase two will be indoor/outdoor runs for the medium to larger dogs! We have a long way to go, but are happy to be able to take this important first step.

To help us complete the shelter at the sanctuary, please donate to the Building Fund. Also needed are volunteers with experience in the following areas: Electrical, Plumbing, and build outs including flooring, walls and air conditioning. Fencing experts would be great also!

Thank you for your support in making our dreams for our dogs come true!!

OUR FOSTER PROGRAM

We have a private shelter and some of our dogs are living in foster homes. If there is specific dog you are interested in, please e-mail us.

We always need new foster homes. If you would consider fostering a homeless dog, please e-mail us. Every time you foster a dog, you save a life.
