MEET AND GREET DAYS

Forgotten Friends - Mixed Breed Rescue holds meet and greet days at the Petco on Great Hills Trail in Austin, Texas. Please visit the Events page of our website for adoption dates and times. Adoptions are limited to residents of the Greater Austin area. No out-of-state adoptions are allowed. All animals are spayed/neutered prior to placement in their adoptive homes; for this reason, puppies cannot go to their new homes until they are 12 weeks old. Read more about our adoption process.

WHO WE ARE

Forgotten Friends is an Austin-based rescue group that was started in 1999 to help reduce the number of sweet, loving dogs that die every day in area shelters for lack of a committed home. In 2004 we became a 501c(3) which enabled us to greatly improve our ability to save more lives and contribute to the happiness of our adopter families. Our goal is to speak for the voiceless, restore them as close as possible to good health, and find forever homes that can commit to their lifetime care. We are supported solely by volunteers and donations from the community. Donations and adoption fees go directly to our dogs' veterinary care, food, heart worm prevention and basic needs. Donations are tax deductible.

Puppies and dogs enter our program from area shelters and stay at a private mini shelter until foster homes become open or new fosters sign on, then the dogs are transferred out to the foster for training before going to new families. If there are no available fosters, the dogs reside at the shelter until they are adopted.

Our commitment to the potential adopter and to our dogs, is to screen all applications carefully to find the very best match between the needs of the adopter and our dog.

ABOUT OUR DOGS

Forgotten Friends dogs are rescued from local area animal shelters. All dogs are heartworm negative, spayed or neutered and current on age-specific vaccinations and heartworm preventative before they are adopted. For more information about our dogs, visit the Adults or Puppies section(s) of our website. Statistically black dogs, Senior dogs, and larger dogs wait much longer for their forever homes and sadly are often never chosen from among all the younger, smaller and "flashier" puppies and dogs available in shelters and rescue groups. Please check out these wonderful dogs on our site and consider being their special guardian angel!

Our adopted dogs are eligible for:

Free training consultation and $20 off any training service at Action Pack Dogs

Free home manners class; $15 discount for Puppy Start Class (2-4 months of age); $25 discount for Basic Companion Class (over 4 months of age) at Hearts and Paws

OUR FOSTER PROGRAM

We have a private shelter and some of our dogs are living in foster homes. If there is specific dog you are interested in, please e-mail us.

We always need new foster homes. If you would consider fostering a homeless dog, please e-mail us. Every time you foster a dog, you save a life.
