Our Pet List

Happy Tails!

We have some very cute small dogs and a few larger ones still for adoption. We will accept any donation amount as long as the animal will be cared for properly.

Volunteers Are still Desperately Needed at the kennels! Only a couple volunteered and that was not enough to run the facility at full steam as before.

People volunteer but don't commit in Bee County; I am sad to say that. I have helped Doris to spay and neuter, doctor and house in the last 8 years thousands of animals to get them adopted. I am ashamed that the people of Beeville feel more need to gamble, and be self righteous than willing to help each other or the animals that God created to give us love and loyalty. As of the First of October I will only be on a part time basis with the PAA until I find a permanent postion somewhere and if necessary will probably move from the area. Most of the people of Bee county don't feel it is their responsibility to care for the pets of this county, and even if they do they do not feel it is a priority.

Some of people that were a part of our group in the beginning even stopped, because they did not want to get politically involved. Very few want to donate money because we are not a state of the art building or have the resources of some of the larger rescues or humane groups of Texas .

Does anyone even remember when those groups started out ?
How did their buildings look?
How many people helped out?

It would have only taken 5 to 10 people a week to help clean the kennels and help keep the ticks and fleas at bay. Instead Bee County residents would rather leave it to one person who is not able to do it all on her own, so you can complain that it is not done right.

If you have a leak at your house you fix it, do you not? Why can you not see a problem at the kennels and offer to fix it? Most of the time it would have taken an hour at most of your time to clean out one kennel. Instead you let someone from out of the county make accusations without standing up for what you know is right for Bee County (to have a shelter that is being useful).

In the 6 months that I have been adopting out animals this year, I have adopted close to 200 healthy, happy, loving friends. It breaks my heart that people wait until my son is killed and then they take advantage of me during my time of grief. I can no longer do my animal friends much good here in Beeville, if the residents refuse to stand by my friends as well. Beevile residents have no fight in them for anything but self. I am ashamed to say that. You would rather beg Doris for dog and cat food, vet bills to be paid, vaccinations she can not afford to give but will not turn down. You even beg food and bills for your families as well, then say she is only doing this for the animals. Do you pitch in to help her when she is sick or running out of money during the month?
No, not that I have seen, but she is determined to be there for you all anyway for as long as she is physically able (which won't be long at this rate).

Now you can go back to complaining that Doris is putting dogs around town and that there are to many cats in your neighborhoods.

If someone drops a dog or kittens off on your doorstep, you can find them homes for yourself or another solution to your problem, don't call Doris.
MAKE SURE YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOUR SOLUTION THOUGH. .

THE PAA WILL STILL BE HERE FOR YOUR SPAYING AND NEUTERING HELP. They have had the Texas Grant renewed for the 2008-2009 year, JUST CALL DORIS WREN AT 358-4124

If you want , offer to foster the animals for Doris, I am sure she would appreciate it.

The Wags & Whiskers No-Kill Pet Shelter would like to thank the few supportive people of Bee County for the donated materials (even though some took them back after the gossip started) and pet foods in 2007 and on into 2008. I also want to thank The Prison workers for all the help they gave me while they could. Thank you!
Doris will still need your help Beeville, with the in town crowd. She will still be feeding feral cats and adopting from the pound because that is what she does. You can not change a tigers stripes into something it is not. She has done this for 35 years and will keep doing it until she is not physically able to do so. Those of you that can, please help her. I know she will love you for it. .

Who We Are

The Pet Assistance Association, Inc. was organized in 1976 when a group of caring Bee county residents came together to incorporate the organization as a 501(c) 3 Corporation whose primary purpose was to reduce the number of unwanted animals by sponsoring low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats. Since that time, Association volunteers have cared for thousands of stray animals, provided adoptive homes, medical treatments, food, and spay and neuter surgeries at a reduced rate for those who could not afford the cost. The organization has worked closely with an area veterinarian and the public in these endeavors. Another focus of the organization is public education aimed at encouraging responsible pet ownership stressing the need to spay and neuter family pets in order to cut down on the number of unwanted animals that are tragically put to death each year. All funding is provided by private individuals and foundations. Your donations go to the animals and the Wags & Whiskers No-kill Rescue of Bee County.

Our Goal

We have received a grant for the second year(starting September1st 2008) for free spaying and neutering( from the Texas Friendly Liscence plate funds) administered at the South Texas Veterinary clinic for anyone on Foodstamps or Medicaid. If you would like to contribute to our effort by helping with low cost spaying and neutering for those who do not qualify for this program, please contact us at 361-358-4124.
