We have so many wonderful pets that it's difficult to call just one of them Pet of the Month. They are all wonderful, precious and in need of loving homes. If you don't see the pet you're looking for please call us and let us know what you're looking for - we may have just the perfect pet for you and your family!
Please don't forget how wonderful adult cats are - you know what their temperament is, how loving they are, and whether they like other cats or dogs. Kittens and puppies are cute and cuddly but you never know what they will be like when they grow up!
Our dogs/puppies are shown at two San Antonio PetsMart locations (Summit Parkway & Loop 410 NW and intersection of Hwy 151 and Loop 410 NW) on Saturdays from noon til 4:00. Come by and visit us and our furry babies! Cats are also at both PetsMart locations (intersection of Hwy 151 and Loop 410 NW as well as Summit Pkwy and Loop 410 NW) daily from 3:30 - 8:30. Who We Are
Animal Welfare Society of Bandera County (AWSBC) rescues animals from the local animal control agency, Boerne/Kendall County Animal Control, Bexar County Animal Control, Leon Valley Animal Control and Castle Hills Animal Control as well as from the public. We are dedicated to helping stray and abandoned animals (especially ones that we know will be killed quickly) - those that have illnesses that other agencies can't/won't help. Our mission is to provide shelter for abandoned/abused/neglected animals as well as educating the public regarding animal welfare and cruelty issues. The need is so great throughout San Antonio and the outlying areas that AWSBC has expanded to include Kendall & Bexar counties in our rescues. Shelter rescues are first and top priorities but if space is available we will intake from the public.
AWSBC works closely with Hill Country Animal League (SPCA) in Boerne which is a spay/neuter agency in Kendall County. HCAL generously provides assistance to the citizens of Bandera County for low cost/no cost spay/neuter of pets and feral animals. We thank them so much for all their help! We are so proud to be associated with this wonderful group!
We are in desperate need of volunteers. Even if you can't foster a dog or cat, we need help in cleaning cages, playing with the animals, and walking dogs. Are you artistic? A good public speaker? A fundraising guru? Good with children? We need people to help run a booth, prepare a school program or help design brochures. If you have the time - we can put you to work! Right now with the influx of kittens and puppies, your donations are critical to the health and welfare of these babies. The cost to raise kittens and puppies to adoption time is very expensive. Please won't you help us help the animals?!
Adopting a Friend
All our dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, microchipped and up to date on shots prior to adoption. We also make sure they are flea free and worm free. Our dog adoptions will range in price from $125 - $200 depending on breed and size.
Our cats/kittens are current on their shots, spayed/neutered, feline leukemia/FIV tested (50% testing of litters of kittens), microchipped and parasite free. Our adoption donations range in price (from $85 to $150 depending on the breed).

Come Visit Us!
All our cats are in foster homes. Our dogs are located in the AWSBC shelter in Pipe Creek, Texas. Special needs pets are placed in "special" foster homes who can give them the care they need. Our five acre sanctuary will eventually house a spay/neuter clinic, a cattery and a dog park. This shelter will make it possible to save even more animals in crisis - which is our primary goal!
