Donations, volunteers make dog rescue group possible
by Tom Behrens
Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from K-9 Angels Rescue! Please understand that not all families and dogs are compatible. Every effort is made to match a dog’s exhibited traits with characteristics you desire in a dog. As such, adoptions are not done on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event we have multiple applications for the same dog and all applications are equal, we will most likely adopt the dog to the applicant having current or previous dog ownership.
AS A RESCUE, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY ANY APPLICATION.
To be considered as an adopter, you must be:
- At least 23 years of age and possess valid identification showing current residential address;
- Willing and able to invest the time and money required to provide proper care for a dog
(estimated minimum annual cost = $950 per dog);
- Prepared to pay a $200 Adoption Fee (this includes the dog’s spay/neuter, microchip,
boarding, vaccinations, heartworm and flea prevention, and any other medicines or medical
- Willing to allow us to do a home visit prior to adoption; and
- Prepared to give us your veterinarian’s contact information if you currently own a dog
or have owned a dog in the past.
K-9 Angels Rescue is an all-breed, non-profit, canine rescue organization established in February 2012. Many of our core volunteers bring along years of experience from serving other Houston rescue groups. Since Feb 2012 we have found homes for over 1100 dogs (as of May 2014).
Our volunteers are compassionate, companion animal welfare advocates dedicated to contributing their time, skills, finances, and experience. In turn, their dedication helps save the lives of the abandoned, abused, homeless, neglected, orphaned, rejected, stray, and surrendered dogs in Houston's animal control facilities.
We are committed to rescuing and re-homing these dogs regardless of their breed or circumstance. We are motivated by the dire need to educate the public about the effects of irresponsible breeding practices, while helping the community by alleviating overcrowding in area shelters.
K-9 Angels Rescue Board Members and Volunteers are 100% VOLUNTEER and receive NO compensation.
We are not a shelter in the sense that we are not positioned to accept dogs from the public.
We personally select our dogs from the greater Houston animal control facilities where all dogs are subject to destruction because their "crime" is not having a home.
A dog selected into our rescue program remains in our care until adopted. Only when we are able to secure the best match between dog and new caregiver(s) is the dog released from our program.
We believe in foster homes. A foster home provides the dog with a loving, safe environment and allows for behavioral observations & modifications, and training. Fostering creates the opportunity to see how the dog interacts with human family members and furry family members.When a foster family is not available our dogs are kenneled until transported to our Adoption Center on Saturday morning.
