Who We Are Volunteers for Animal Protection, Inc is a non-profit no-kill animal welfare organization that rescues and places abandoned, abused, and neglected cats and dogs into permanent loving homes. We have a small facility that we use to evaluate animals before they move to a foster or adoptive home. Most of our animals live in foster homes and come to adoption days on the weekends. The foster homes provide food, water and love to the animals until they are adopted. We spay/neuter all of our animals before they are adopted to families. We are a volunteer-based organization. NEW! Foster to Adopt Program Coming Soon Sponsor an Animal You can sponsor an animal for as little as $10.00 a month. This will help cover food and medical expenses for the animal of your choice. You will receive a picture and updates of your animal. Other ways you can help: Go shopping! - Do you ever buy online from stores like Walmart, Target, PetsMart, PetCo, Barnes & Noble, Office Depot or Sears? (just to name a few) VAP participates in the "Save A Pet Mall" network of online stores. Simply click here before shopping and a percentage (up to 30%!) of your order helps support VAP! Be sure to tell your friends too! Facility Cleaning & Animal Care - Provide direct care to the dogs or cats at our facility. Feed, water, clean kennels/cages, wash dishes and help socialize pets. Pet Transporters - Volunteers are needed to transport dogs or cats to adoption day at Petsmart in Humble on Saturdays. These volunteers will pick up our dogs or cats from the facility located in Kingwood (about 5 minutes away from Petsmart) and take them to adoption day at 11:30 am and then return them to the facility at 4:30 pm. Dependable volunteers with reliable transportation. Crates provided. Volunteers are also needed to transport dogs and cats to local veterinarians for health checks on an as needed basis. Foster Care - Individuals are needed who are willing to donate their home as shelter, provide food and love to animals in need until they are adopted. All healthcare is provided. Some of animals we take into our program need major socialization so we are always in need of foster families. Adoption Day Counselors - Volunteers needed who are reliable, professional, self-starting individuals to help facilitate animal adoptions. Assist our diverse clientele both in person and over the phone with animal adoptions, by completing necessary screenings and paperwork. Act as VAP ambassador using good communication and listening skills. This is a fast-paced environment. Must be detail-oriented, well organized and enjoy interaction with potential adopters. Adoption Day Set Up - Volunteers are needed to help setup and take down the dog adoption area at Petsmart in Humble. Duties include putting cages together and setting up fold out tables and chairs. Set up is done on Saturday mornings (or Friday nights) and taken down Sunday afternoons (4:00 pm). Set up takes approximately 1 hour and take down about 1.5 hours. Position is somewhat physically demanding. We also need someone to clean the Luv-a-Pet center around 11:00 am on Saturday mornings at Petsmart and assist with clean-up at the end of the day.
