Our Featured Horse of This Month is: Shylow...

Shylow!
Ranch 2nd Santuary horse 20 year old Palamino Paint Shylow was brought to us by Decatur Sherrif's Department mid winter this year. She had been owned by one man her entire life and he had died of cancer. The owner had set up a trust fund for her and put her in the care of a long time friend. This person was dishonest and left her to die and took the trust fund money. When she was found she was so thin and had a serious eye injury. After some serious consideration we decided that in memory of our beloved Doc we would take in this old lady and make her our own. She has since had surgery to remove the eye (that was not savable) had her teeth floated so she could finally eat hay and her feet done (they hurt and she was having trouble walking). Landa and Michelle donated funds to help pay for her vet bill of over $900. Now we need your help. It costs approx $200 per month to care for this old gal. She is a permanent resident and will live her remaining days here inspiring and teaching people about abuse, neglect, love, trust and understanding from a horse's perspective. Will you help her? Sponsor her now and make a difference!

Passion Horse News:

As times change so does Passion Horse. We are a non-profit horse rescue but we also offer quality horses and related services for sale. Often people are misinformed about how a horse rescue needs to operate to succeed. There are three ways that a rescue can sustain itself, wealth, grants and donations. Firstly, the rescue owners may be wealthy. Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Secondly, in today's trying times, grant money is extremely limited. Thirdly, with the economy being as it is donations are way down. So in an effort to continue rescuing horses we have re-organized somewhat and have come up with a "program" that we think will appeal to everyone interested in rescuing and horse ownership. Passion Horse will now ONLY be a PMU rescue. Once a year we rescue PMU (Premarin) babies that are destined for slaughter (this was our 6th year). This is our primary focus for rescuing. In an effort to help feed and run this ranch we also offer horses and related services for sale (see our program under Horses for Sale). Our horses will primarily be for the beginner or people who want to return to riding after a long absence. We will offer the horses in a package that includes lessons, training and 30 days boarding to help and educate the new owner adjust to their exciting new journey. Passion Horse is run solely by Debra and Jeff Naismith and the generous help of some permanent volunteers who come daily and weekly. This organization is small but very unique in its operation.

A Little Bit About Us:

Passion Horse Ranch is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs and horses that have been neglected, abandoned or in need of help! We are run completely by the love and hard work of our volunteers & sponsors! When a horse comes to Passion Horse they are set on a special course to recovery. Each horse, for the first month especially, is placed on a special diet and very spoiled. We love each and every horse that comes to us and our efforts are tireless. Once the horse has recovered sufficiently we place them out with the herd one at a time. Our belief is that it is best to have a horse live as natural a life as possible. We have them spend very little time in a stall. They are out in pasture grazing and interacting with there new friends. When we feel like the horses are ready we place them up for adoption in hopes of finding them a great new family! Passion Horse Ranch is dedicated to each and every horse we rescue.

Adopting Your Best Friend:

Adoption is a very exciting time for all of us, and we love to see our rescued horses going to their new forever homes! So we have designed our adoption process to be fun & exciting as you prepare for your new addition! Once you have decided on who you want to adopt, here is a brief overview of our process! Adoption application is submitted, with all your necessary information. We do require references, and your current veterinary’s contact information. If you do not currently have an equine vet, please include the vet that you will be using! After your application is approved we schedule a visit your home/ boarding facility to make sure the fencing is adequate and that you have shelter, water and appropriate provisions for your new horse. All adoptions include their current vaccinations, worming and current Coggins. Delivery is optional for a minimal fee if needed.

Training & Riding Lessons All Ages!!

We offer extensive horse breaking and training utilizing the “Parelli Natural Horsemanship” methods! Private & group riding lessons are also available for any age or discipline! All proceeds from our training, riding and adoption programs are used to rescue and rehabilitate neglected, abused or starved horses!
