Our Featured Pet is Serenity:

Serenity

Serenity was brought to the shelter as a stray. Immediately after her arrival she started labor and gave birth. She is currently in foster care with her 5 kittens and recently adopted 4 other orphaned kittens, which are up for adoption too.

The weaning process is almost done. She was named Serenity because she has not shown any signs of nervousness and keeps purring almost non-stop. She is a very loving cat, but throws a hissy fit when she encounters a dog.

Who We Are:

The Erath County Humane Society is a very active influence in the county offering shelter to homeless and unwanted animals. There is no charge for bringing in animals that live within the county but all donations to the organization are very much appreciated. There is a small charge for animals that are brought in from outside the county boundaries; $25 per animal over 3 months old; $25 per litter under 3 months of age.

All dogs and cats adopted from the shelter must be neutered within a reasonable period of time, depending upon the age of the animal. This is in accordance with state law. Other requirements coincide with those ordinances on the books of the city of Stephenville such as vaccinations, tags, number of pets in the household, etc. Stephenville Police Department employs two officers to enforce those regulations.

Adopting a friend:

Adoption Fees

Dogs $40.00 Cats $30.00

All adopted animals must be spayed or neutered after they are 6 months old. This is required by law. You will be given a coupon toward the cost of the procedure:

Dogs $30.00 coupon

Cats $20.00 coupon

Please check with the shelter to find out which veterinarians will honor the coupons. The pet owner must pay any fees beyond the value of the coupon. Normally, we require that the animal be spayed or neutered within 30 days after it is 6 months old.

No Health Guarantee

It is not possible for the shelter to guarantee the health of any adopted pet. However, should the animal die within two weeks, you may select another pet. There can be no refunds.

Giving Up the Pet

If at any time you can no longer keep the pet, you must return it to the animal shelter.
