Our Adoptable Pet List

We've just taken in a beautiful young fawn male Pug. We think he's about a year old. He was found dumped in a very deep ditch and appears to have either been beaten or hit by a car. Among other injuries to his belly and other legs his left front leg is badly broken. Our vet set it temporarily Saturday afternoon and sent him home with pain meds and a pill to help keep the swelling down. He see's an orthopedic vet Monday. With the x-rays, exam & treatment that has already been done his bill is already over $200.00 so we've created a ChipIn for Ricky's surgery. If you can donate anything it will be greatly appreciated. You can see pictures of Ricky and learn more about him on our adoptable pets page.

Who We Are

We are a not for profit Pug Rescue. We will take in any purebred Pug regardless of it's age, medical conditions or needs. We also regularly rescue Boston Terriers. We will also take mixes of either breed as space allows. We occasionally take other small companion breed dogs too. Whenever we have those they will also be listed on Petfinder. San Antonio Pug Rescue was started almost 5 years ago. Since that time we've adopted out approximately 380 dogs and a couple of cats. We do this out of a love for a breed that wants nothing more than to be as close to their beloved humans side as much as possible whether they're watching TV or trying to take a nice quiet bath or shower!! We've found that despite the hard life some of our rescues have had they are still the sweetest ,most loving dog you could ever imagine owning. A good friend named George (who owned 7 Pugs!!) once told us that Pugs were like Lay's Potato Chips...there was no way that you could have just one!!! We laughed when he first said that but now we have to agree with him.

Adopting a friend

In order to adopt from San Antonio Pug Rescue we require a completely filled out application with your personal information, vet information & personal references. We also require a home visit. We will consider out of state adoptions but unless transport can be arranged to our satisfaction you will need to come to San Antonio to pick up your new Pug. Your new Pug will be fully vetted before he/she is adopted. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, brought up to date on all shots, heartworm tested (and treated prior to adoption if positive) & wormed. They also all get a general check up with our vets to make sure there aren't any other issues that need to be taken care of. We will also microchip your new pet. All of our adoptions also come with a free 30 day Health Insurance Policy for your new dog from ShelterCare.

Come Visit Us!

We do not have a physical shelter so all of our dogs are kept in private homes. If you wish to see a specific Pug we will be glad to make arrangements with you so that you can meet the Pug you're interested in. You need to have an approved application on file prior to visiting our Pugs. We very often have Pugs that are not listed on Petfinder for one reason or another. So if you don't see one that you're interested in or if you're looking for a specific color or age please email us and let us know. We'll be glad to keep your name on our waiting list.
