CANINE COMPASSION RESCUE ~
~ WHO WE ARE
~
Canine
Compassion is a specialized rescue group of volunteers dedicated to the medical
and behavioral needs of each dog we take in. Our members are located throughout
the greater
~ OUR LOCATION
~
We serve
As a “Foster Only” rescue, we operate by
keeping the fostered dogs in homes only. There is no location to “come view” our
dogs. Arrangements are made for approved applicants to meet with the dog they
have applied to adopt.
~ THE RESCUE PROCESS
~
As soon as a dog is rescued by us, they
are immediately seen by one of our vets. All medical needs are addressed. Every
dog is altered (spayed or neutered), heartworm tested (treated if positive), and
tested for parasites.
We put our dogs on heartworm preventative
and flea preventative. Medical care is kept current for every dog. Our dogs are
groomed on a regular basis, socialized with people, other dogs and tested for
cat tolerance as well.
The dogs this group takes in are fostered
in our homes. They are loved just like our own dogs because they are our dogs
until we determine the best match for their unique personality, size, and energy
level.

FRIEND....THE ADOPTION PROCESS ~

Once an application is received it is
reviewed by our Review Board and the vet's reference is checked. A home visit by
one of our volunteers is also required.
The final step is the signing of the
adoption contract. As part of that contract, the adopters are required to make
an appointment with their vet for a "meet and greet" just to establish the new
dog with their own vet.
~ WHAT IS A VET
REFERENCE AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? ~
An excellent veterinary reference is
required to adopt from Canine Compassion Rescue. An excellent vet reference
shows responsible past / current pet ownership.
An excellent veterinary reference
includes:
~ I
WILL BE A FIRST TIME PET OWNER WITH NO VET REFERENCE - DOES THAT MEAN I
CANNOT ADOPT FROM CANINE COMPASSION? ~
Not necessarily. Our review board makes
decisions regarding adoptions to first time pet owners on a case by case
basis.
~ HOW MUCH IS THE
ADOPTION FEE AND WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE? ~
Adoption fees vary depending on the
amount of the veterinary care that was required to get the dog to an adoptable
state. The adoption fee covers the cost of the spay / neuter surgery as well as
up to date vaccines, a Home Again microchip and any other veterinary care that
is needed while the dog is under our care.
~ WHAT IF IT IS NOT A
MATCH? ~
If you decide for any reason that you are
unable to keep the dog you have adopted, you will be required to return the dog
to Canine Compassion Rescue. Adoption fees are non-refundable, as they are used
to pay the veterinary bills for that dog.
