WHY DOES OUR ANIMAL COMMUNITY NEED FRIENDS FOR LIFE ?
At 80,000 annually, Houston has the tragic distinction of being the city that kills the most animals in its shelters second only to San Antonio. 75% of the animals we have placed in loving homes were classified by other area shelters as unadoptable. Reasons other shelters would have ended their lives included: weighing less than 2 lbs, being over 7 years old, being injured, having treatable medical conditions or just being a member of certain breeds. Adoptable is what we, as a community, say it is. We have the power to redefine adoptable right now. Through our proactive placement programs, we redefine adoptable everyday.
Who We Are
We are the fastest growing No Kill animal adoption and rescue organization in Houston, dedicated to offering No Kill solutions to the animals of Houston and the people who want to help them. Our programs include rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, humane education and animal food/supply support. Incorporated in 2002 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue organization, we are committed to offering Houston a real alternative to shelters that kill homeless animals. We opened our first shelter at our current location in 2009. Due to the success of our current programs and great community and donor support, we will be opening a larger, brand new, LEED-certified green, No Kill shelter in the Houston Heights in Spring 2012! EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION PROGRAM:
Friends For Life accepts animals of all breeds, all ages and in all health situations. No life is disposable. We routinely accept, rehabilitate, medically treat and adopt into loving homes, animals on whom other groups have given up. All animals are fully vet-checked and have received all age-appropriate testing, vaccinations, deworming and spay/neuter surgery. We have training consults and discounted training services available for all FFL animals.
