Our Mission

North Texas Basset Hound Rescue, Inc. is dedicated to the welfare of basset hounds. We were founded in 1984 and later formed as a committee under the Basset Hound Club of Greater Fort Worth. In 1997, NTBHR was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the State of Texas. In June of 1998, NTBHR was classified as a Charitable Organization by the IRS.

North Texas Basset Hound Rescue, Inc, is organized for the following purposes:

1. Prevent cruelty to animals, specifically basset hounds;
2. Support animal welfare by locating and retrieving homeless, unwanted and/or mistreated basset hounds;
3. Provide necessary funding for medical care, spaying and neutering, for unwanted and/or mistreated basset hounds; and
4. Place homeless, unwanted and or mistreated canine basset hounds in permanent loving homes.

The general area of rescue is from all over North Texas, bordering Louisiana, Oklahoma, and encompassing nearly 45 Texas Counties. We adopt our dogs to primarily the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area. Money is spent to insure that the bassets are healthy, spayed/neutered and treated for heartworms. On occasion we must make the tough decision of euthanasia due to health problems or aggressive behavior.
Rescue volunteers receive no compensation for their countless hours and transportation costs. NTBHR is very fortunate to have several veterinarians who provide excellent treatment at a reduced cost.

NTBHR is a 501c-3 approved organization. Our EIN number is 75-2706935

Adoption Policy

Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescued basset. We are an all volunteer organization. The dogs are kept in individual foster homes until adopted therefore we do not have a facility to visit. The best place to see the dogs is on the web site www.bassetrescuedfw.org You may read more about our adoption policies and fees at http://www.bassetrescuedfw.org/info/adoption

The first step in the adoption process is to complete an online adoption application at http://www.bassetrescuedfw.org. Once we receive the application an adoption coordinator will contact you to start the approval process. Once you are approved to adopt, we work very hard to match the right dog with the right forever home.

Adoption Process:
Must pass the 3 step process on website application
Meet and Greet with foster and desired dog should take place in the adopter’s home, to see how the basset interacts with other pets and family members
Meet and Greets can occur for as many dogs as necessary to find the perfect match.
Adoption can take place in Foster’s home or Adopter’s home, but should not be done at a public location, unless there is room for a sit-down conversation. (this is to ensure that all of the documents are read, signed and understood)
Payment must be received at the time of the adoption
Adoption fees are as follows, but can change by a motion of the BOD
Adoption Fee structure effective July 1, 2015

• 0-2 yr.: $375

• 2 yrs 1 mo. to 8 yrs: $275

• 8 yrs 1 mo. + yrs. : $175

Age determination will be made by NTBHR and are estimates in most cases. NTBHR basset hounds are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, up to date on shots and micro-chipped.
