Boscoe is a very fine fellow that has had a rough time. He was found as a stray and was in a wonderful foster home, but the foster's home was tragically hit by a tornado and although Boscoe was alright, he took a long time to get over the ordeal emotionally. He is very sweet and loving and attaches himself to his caregiver very strongly. He needs a patient loving person that can give him the time and love that his so richly deserves.
News
Hickman Humane Society, Inc is a 501 (c) (3) founded in 1996 by a small group of volunteers. We are a shelterless society existing in a rural county which has no animal control, no shelter and no local ordinances to control the vast numbers of roaming strays & animal drop off problem. We exist with virtually no community support and actually no support from the county government. Our funding is entirely dependent upon donations.
At this time, we have a small group of foster care homes which is our only method of providing care for the small numbers of animals we are able to take in. Animals are adopted through Petfinders, with the aid of Great Dogs, a northeastern rescue organization and by Pet of the Week ads in the local Hickman County Times newspaper, and Pet Patrol announcements on our local radio station, KIX 96. We also, hold local adoptathons and participate in PetCo adoptathons in Nashville, Tn, whenever possible.
Our group has a very successful low cost spay/neuter program which has been available to county residents for 9 years. Countless numbers of puppies and kittens lives have been saved thanks to this program and the 8 participating veterinarians who generously support it.
We have been a recipient of the State Animal Friendly Spay/Neuter Grant for 5 years now and will continue to seek funding through the state to further provide assistance to area residents.
In late 2005 we were awarded a canine spay/neuter grant from a major foundation that will be made available starting in April of this year (2008). With all of these spay/neuter funds available we believe it will have a significant impact on our community, helping to control our animal over population, thereby bettering the lives of countless animals and residents alike.
Nevertheless, we are continually in need of donations to keep our organization viable. Our foster care program is continuously in need of funds for medical care, food and supplies. All of the animals we take in are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, IDEXX tested and placed on heartworm preventive before they are adopted out. Any medical needs are taken care of, so adoptive families can be assured the animal they choose is healthy and well cared for.
Any donations may be sent to P.O. Box 183 Centerville, Tn. All are tax deductible. Donations of food, supplies, etc. may be made by calling the Humane Society answering service toll free at 1-866-304-3352 to make suitable arrangements.
Adopting a friend
All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, IDEXX tested for Heartworm, Lyme disease and Ehrlichia. They are placed on a heartworm preventive when taken into our foster care program. Cats are rabies vaccinated, dewormed and spayed or neutered. Feline adoptions are $65.00. All puppies and kittens not old enough to be altered can be adopted, however we do charge the state required spay/neuter deposit of $90.00 in addition to our normal adoption fee. This deposit is held and is refundable when the animal is altered within a specified time frame, and proof of being altered is sent to Hickman Humane.

We hope at some time in the future to have a shelter ...however at this time we operate solely with foster care providers. Animals can be shown to prospective adopters by making an appointment through our telephone answering service at 1-866-304-3352. A member of the volunteer telephone team will be happy to set up an appointment for anyone wishing to see an animal.
