******************************RESCUE RULES****************************** WE ARE OPEN AND WILLING TO WORKING WITH BREED RESCUE GROUPS. HOWEVER, IN ORDER TO SAVE CONFUSION AND TO STREAMLINE THE RESCUE OPERATIONS, THERE ARE SOME BASIC RULES THAT WE MUST FOLLOW. ANY ANIMAL THAT IS BEING CONSIDERED FOR RESCUE, MUST FIRST HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC FOR ADOPTION. ANY GROUP WANTING TO RESCUE AN ANIMAL, UNDER THEIR "UMBRELLA" MUST HAVE THEIR INFORMATION (INCLUDING ADOPTION APPLICATION) ON FILE WITH OUR SHELTER. ALL COORDINATION, FOR TRANSPORT, NEEDS TO COME DIRECT FROM THE RESCUE ORGANIZATION, AS THIS WILL ELIMINATE MULTIPLE INDIVIDUALS FROM TRYING TO SET UP AND FACILITATE A RESCUE FOR THE SAME ANIMAL. ONCE THE RESCUE IS SETUP, THE RESCUING ORGANIZATION WILL NOTIFY THE SHELTER PERSONNEL AS TO WHO AND WHEN THE PICKUP, OF THE ANIMAL, WILL OCCUR. *******************************************************************************
Just a reminder, TN Code Annotated 68-8-104, requires that any animal owned, kept or harbored be vaccinated against rabies. Not only is this a requirement by law, but it is the ONLY way to protect your animal against rabies. NOTE: EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, ANY DOG OR CAT THAT IS INVOLVED IN BITING SOMEONE, AND IS NOT CURRENT ON RABIES VACCINATIONS, WILL RESULT IN CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST THE OWNER. ANY OTHER DOG/CAT THAT IS NOT CURRENT ON ITS RABIES SHOT IS SUBJECT TO CAUSING THE OWNER TO BE CRIMINALLY CHARGED A "SEPARATE COUNT" FOR EACH UNVACCINATED ANIMAL.

Who We Are

The Sullivan County Animal Control / Animal Shelter is a division of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. We are a tax exempt, taxpayer and donation supported shelter. We support and promote the control of the animal population through the spay and neuter of dogs and cats. We advocate the Ethical and Humane treatment of animals in accordance with all applicable state laws.
THE SHELTER IS ALWAYS IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE THE TIME TO COME DOWN TO THE SHELTER AND WORK. WE CAN ESPECIALLY USE PERSONS DURING THE MORNING HOURS ON MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS, FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS, TO ASSIST WITH THE CLEANING PROCESS. VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE ANIMAL SHELTER, DURING BUSINESS HOURS. *****IN ADDITION TO VOLUNTEERING, AT THE SHELTER, WE CAN ALSO USE QUALIFIED PERSONS, WHO AFTER BEING APPROVED AS VOLUNTEERS, TO SERVE AS FOSTER HOMES FOR DOGS AND CATS.******

The mission of the Sullivan County Animal Control is to reduce the number of unwanted domesticated animals in the Sullivan County area. The mission will be accomplished through internal and external adoption programs, in which shelter animals are placed in proper homes, the education of the general public of the need to spay and neuter their animals, the enforcement of Tennessee Leash Laws and the investigation of reports regarding Animal Cruelty.
