We have some great stuff as fund raisers here at the Shelter - stop by and see!
The purpose of the Greeneville - Greene County Humane Society is to prevent cruelty to animals and to relieve suffering among animals through the extension of humane education to children, as well as to adults; the enforcement of existing statutes and laws against cruelty to animals by instituting proceedings in cooperation with law enforcement and judicial agencies; and operating a humane animal shelter. We are a "low" kill shelter - meaning that we only euthanize in instances where the animal is injured beyond medical assistance. All our animals stay with us until they are adopted.
We are a non-profit private agency.
We do not take any city, county, state or federal funds. We operate solely on private donations.
If you have a stray situation in Greene County, please contact Greene County Animal Control at (423) 798-1777. The Animal Control Facility is also located on Hal Henard Road. It is managed by the Department of Health for Greene County.
Our adoption process is very simple. We have a form you fill out that authorizes us to investigate your home with your new family member and if the home is found unsuitable we can take the animal back to our facility. You also agree that if you can not care for the animal anymore you will return it to us, versus transferring it to someone else. Our fee includes the mandatory spaying or neutering, the 1st in the series of distemper/parvo shots, and a one year rabies shot. We also have the animal medically checked out by our staff vet.
Yes, we can do an out of state adoption. You will need to make arrangements for the pet to be paid for, picked up at our Shelter and transported to you. We will not hold pets for anyone without full payment. We cannot hold any pet for more than seven days once full payment has been received.
We are located in Greene County, Tennessee in the city of Greeneville. Take Interstate 81 to Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville). If you are heading NORTH - turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp, heading towards Greeneville. If you are heading SOUTH - turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp, heading towards Greeneville. This is 11E - travel approximately 13 miles to Greeneville. You will see a Restaurant with a red, white and blue sign on the left, called "HOMESTEAD RESTAURANT" - directly across the street from this restaurant is our road - Hal Henard Road. We are approximately 1/4 mile on that road, on the right - just before the Greene County Vocational School. We are located on top of the hill. Our hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Monday thru Saturday.
