Shadowolf Rescue & Rehabilitation is a privately owned and operated 42 acre facility that responds to cruelty calls from local area organizations such as the S.P.C.A. and the local sheriffs department. Shadowolf Rescue also assists other agencies with injured wildlife, and offers adoptions for pets that have been abandoned, injured or confiscated.
As part of our rehabilitation program dogs were crate trained, trained to walk on leashes, and depending upon the breed, house trained. Large breeds were exercised within our forests and some were taken to swim in our 2.1/2 acre lake. Play time also acted as learning to socialize with other dogs in a more relaxed setting. Shadowolf will be closing its doors due to lack of funding.
Our Featured Pet...
Our featured pets this month are Foxfire a black and white gaited Paint, Daisy an American Saddle horse and Lianna a lovable medium haired white kitten with grey spots. Foxfire is a very beautiful horse that was abused. She was hit with a truck, hit with a 2x4 and practically hung upside down to do her hooves. It has taken years of working with her to gain moderate trust of humans. Daisy is a 5+ horse that may have been bred and may be carrying a foal. Lianna is an active 5 month old kitten who loves playing in the litterbox and jumping on the Giant Schnauzer that resides near her kennel.
Due to Shadowolf closing our rescue would love to find Foxfire, Daisy and Lianna a forever home. Shadowolf is also looking for a person who understands the requirements of a horse and would like to foster one of our special needs rescue horses. Shadowolf is trading the adoption fees of the horses listed for lawn maintenance. Call for details. Adoptions forms and references will still be required.

News
Pets and their owners will be looking forward to spending those sunny days of summer outdoors. Whether you are out on a boat, down by the river , walking in the woods or playing in the fields, the summer heat will affect your animals. To make this summer more enjoyable for both of you take precautions to prevent your pet from overheating.
Here are some minor things you can do to help keep your pets cool this summer :
• Give yor dog a “summer cut”. Long haired dogs can be shaved to about 1 inch in length. Never shave a dog down to the skin since the hair provides protection
from the sun.
• Use sunscreen or insect repellant labeled for animals. Shadowolf Rescue uses a diluted solution of Avon’s Skin-So-Soft in a spray bottle. They even bathe their
dogs with it to avoid thos annoying nats.
• Always have shady places and LOTS of fresh, clean water for pets outdoors. When the temperature reaches the high 90’s you may want to take your pet inside
during the mid-day.
• Never, ever leave an animal alone in a parked car! Even with the windows open a parked car can become a deadly oven in no time. If you don’t think so……try it
for yourself!
• If you want to exercise with your dogs try to do so either during the earily morning hours or when the sun sets. You will still have plenty of time to enjoy with your
pets and be safe at the same time.
Watch out for the following symptoms of overheating in pets:Heavy or excessive panting, drooling, difficulty breathing or mild weakness may indicate that your pet is becoming overheated. Your pet can also suffer from vomiting, bloody dirrhea or even seizures in this heat. If you think your pet is suffering from heat stroke or has these symptoms, get help from your veterinarian immediately.
Adopting a friend
Shadowolf Rescue has different types of pets available for adoption. Some pets are confiscations and some are rescues. Simply contact us via phone or email and we will send you an Adoption Contract. Once the contract is filled out, references are checked and adoptions are either denied or approved at this time. The Adoption fees include vaccinations, worming and basic training of your future pet and can be paid via cash or Paypal. Deposits on horses are required. Pet Insurance and Microchipping are also available thru PetFirst Healthcare and Home Again thru Shadowolf Rescue. Whether it be a kitten who needs litter box training or whether it is a puppy that needs to learn to walk on a leash, Shadowolf believes that a well trained pet is a more adoptable one. Shadowolf recommends making an appointment for your newly adopted pet thru your local veterinarian since our cats and dogs are rescues.
