News
We have big plans and hopes and dreams for a new facility. The board of directors is working feverishly to make this happen. At this time, a building has been located that would make a nice shelter. The Property/Economy Committee will be doing a walk through at their February meeting. They will then take information back to the full commission later in February and the full commission will vote on the purchase of this location. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we make our way through this long and drawn out process. If you would like to make a contribution to assist us in our endeavors, please contact the board president, Shannon Dykstra at wtar@bellsouth.net or 731-234-4152.
Who We Are
Benton County Animal Shelter has been under new management since January 12, 2008. In our first year, we wrote policies and procedures as well as hired new staff and began training. Now that this is in place, we will be working toward inplementing new city/county ordinances in 2009 as well as possibly setting forth pet licensing. In the meantime, we hope to reduce our euthenasia incidence. You can help by adopting a shelter pet or having your personal pets spayed or neutered.
Adopting a friend
Adoption fee for any canine is $65 and any feline is $40. The fee includes spay/neuter, rabies vaccines of anyone 12weeks of age or older, and one parvo vaccine. Applications are required. For application, go to: http://bcas.rescueadmin.net/adoption_app.php
ATTENTION RESCUE GROUPS!!!! Benton County Animal Shelter is dedicated to doing what it takes to save animals lives. It is important to register with our shelter board and become an "approved rescue" to pull from this facility. Please email wtar@bellsouth.net with your adoption application, contract, vet reference contact information, and references from other facilities you pull from. We'll be glad to assist you.
Pull fee's for approved rescue organizations are waived. However, no vetting will be done. All vetting will be the responsibility of the approved rescue organization.
LOCAL ADOPTIONS: The primary procedure is to come meet the pet of interests and fill out the application. Or you can fill out the application and wait for approval. Once approved and the adoption fee is paid, the pet will be taken to the local vet for spay/neuter, vaccines, etc. When the pet is ready to be picked up, the vet will call you. It is your responsibility to make arrangements to pick up that pet when it is ready.
OUT OF TOWN ADOPTIONS: You'll need to complete the online application and await approval. Once approved, you are encouraged to get to know that pet as well as you can through the shelter staff. You can submit payment and the pet will then be vetted. The vet will call you when it's ready to be picked up. This can eliminate two trips out of town during this adoption process.
OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: If you are able to make at least one trip, the adoption process can pretty well be handled long distance. However, it is important to keep in mind the shelter staff does not have access to make long distance phone calls. However, you can email them or call them. If you are not able to make the trip at all, adoptions will be subject to transport availability. This can not be guaranteed, but we will put forth an effort.
