Please join us for our next onsite adoption event at PetSmart, Gunbarrel Road, Chattanooga, TN. Listed below are our upcoming adoption dates and times:
Saturday, November 28, 2009 from noon until 5 pm
Please see our event calendar for additional times and dates.
~We have the most beautiful cats!~ (and some really cute dogs, too!)
All are fully vetted (spayed/neutered, FeLV/FIV neg., Vet. checked, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, flea treated, bathed, groomed & nail trimmed).
Our cats are in TOP HEALTH, completely litterbox trained and deserve a great forever home. We have all breeds and ages, long hair, short hair & some already declawed cats. Our adoption fee's range from $35 and up (depending on what our costs were to Vet the cat). The adoption fee is reduced even further when you choose to adopt kitten siblings or a bonded adult pair to the same home.
Our rescued dogs are also fully vetted and all very special. (Most of them live with cats, so they have to be.)
We are a no-kill rescue, when you adopt from us, you save two lives - the one you take home and the one that takes it's place.

A Home for Cats is a small, self-funded, 501(c)(3) non- profit rescue organization located in Chattanooga, TN. We are a no-kill rescue, once we commit to taking in an animal, it stays with us until a new home is found. Ours is an all-volunteer organization and the money needed to care for the pets we rescue comes our of our own pockets. Each "Foster Parent" is responsible for the Veterinary and day to day costs of caring for the animal until adopted. Our adoption fees range from $35 - $125 depending on age, breed and Veterinary expense, however this usually does not cover the significant costs involved, which include traveling to pick up a pet in need, providing veterinary care, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, having it spayed or neutered, FeLV/FIV tested, giving it any training necessary, and helping to socialize, house and feed it. We welcome public dontaions and they are tax deductable. 100% of donated funds go towards the spay/neuter, feeding and housing of our rescued pets.
Our mission is to save as many cats as possible through fostering, socializing, spay/neuter, vaccinations, medical care and adopting them to forever homes. We strive to promote public awareness about the importance of spay/neuter, keeping pets safely indoors and why declawing is inhumane. More info at www.declawing.com . On a limited basis stray and abandoned cats and those rescued from kill shelters are kept uncaged in a home setting until adopted. Because of the interaction in a normal home environment, we are able to acquire insight into the cats' personalities and temperaments. Matching the cat's personality to the needs and expectations of the prospective owner is of primary concern in any adoption. Cats can be seen at portable adoptions and appointments for visiting the cats in the foster homes can be scheduled.
NOTICE: We do not ship our cats. We require that they be picked up here in Chattanooga, TN by the adopter.
Appointments can be made to visit with any of our cats, please email us for more information. Thanks!
We have lots of wonderful cats that are waiting on their forever home to come along, they've all been rescued from kill shelters or were strays. If you are looking for a wonderful companion that will bring you more joy than you ever imagined, consider adopting a rescued cat, dog or critter. Our area shelters are overflowing with pets and most of them don't make it out alive. Please don't buy while others die.
Always spay or neuter your pets! For information on low cost spay neuter certificates, contact C.A.R.E at 894-4926 or email them at spayallpets@aol.com. Most area vets take the certificates, you pay at the time of the procedure. A cat neuter is only $30-$35 and a spay is only $40-$45! Thank you to CARE and a big THANK YOU to the vets that participate in this program.
2008 was a great year.
I want to thank everyone who opened their hearts and homes to our rescued cats by making them a permanent part of their family and to those that donated funds or items to our cause. Adoptions and donations help us to keep doing the important, life-saving work we do and without it, many cats would have died in shelters and on the streets.
We also appreciate the valuable help of others in our community.
Animal Hospital of Signal Mountain has been kind enough to help us with the Veterinary needs of all of our rescued pets. Without them, saving the pets we do would not be possible. The doctors and staff are friendly, knowledgable and always treat us with kindness and respect. Animal Hospital of Signal Mountain, 1801 Taft Highway, Signal Mtn., TN 37377. Phone: (423) 886-7387.
Adopting a friend
Our rescue cats/kittens are Vet. Checked, tested for feline leukemia and FIV, spayed or neutered, receive flea and worm treatment, and are current on age appropriate vaccinations. They are also bathed, groomed and have their nails trimmed. Microchipping is available. Senior cats receive a dental. All of our cats are fed only Hill's Science Diet brand foods. In addition, some cats have other medical needs, which must be dealt with during their stay. The adoption fee helps to defray these expenses.
Finding compatible forever homes for our cats and kittens, where they will be lifetime companions, is the primary goal of A Home for Cats. Follow up telephone calls are made to check on adjustments, to address potential problems, and to answer questions. If circumstances cause the adoptive owner to be unable to keep his/her cat, A Home for Cats requires that the cat/kitten be returned to us.
A Word from our Director
Cats deserve our attention and care. If you are thinking of adopting a cat or kitten, realize the new cat will require Veterinary care, food and shelter throughout it's lifetime. Also, plenty of love and understanding. The average lifespan for cats is 15-20 years, please keep this in mind when considering adding one as a member of your family. Most cats don't enjoy the company of small children, but with the parents' interaction and supervision a cat or kitten can work in your home. My goal is for my rescue cats to be appreciated and respected in his or her new home.
Come Visit Us!
Our cats live in the "foster homes" of volunteers. We are happy to schedule a visit with any of our cats in a calm atmosphere. We hold onsite adoptions at Petsmart - Gunbarrel Rd. location on most Saturdays, but because the cats get stressed by being crated, traveling in a car and being in a noisy environment, many do not show their true personalities. We are constantly updating our adoption page, so please keep checking back. Also feel free to contact us you are looking for a certain breed. If we do not have what you are looking for, we can contact other rescues for you.
Like any animal organization, we are always in need of foster homes, administrative help, fundraisers and volunteers for a multitude of things. If you would like to donate to A Home for Cats, Petsmart and retailer gift cards are always appreciated, as well as monetary gifts, cat toys, beds, etc. We are a 501(c)(3) rescue organization and have no paid staff, 100% of all donations go towards the felines in our care. Donated items can be picked up (just email us at ahomeforcats@bellsouth.net), dropped off during one of our onsite adoption events, or if you prefer, our mailing address is: A Home for Cats, 20 Mason Drive, Suite 601, Chattanooga, TN 37415. Thank you.
We also accept donations online through Paypal.com, click the Paypal logo above and instantly help us save more homeless cats. Our account is ahomeforcats@bellsouth.net. We are a 501(c)(3) rescue organization and all donations are tax deductable as allowed by law. Thank you.
