The Dachshund Breed
The dachshund breed is lively and affectionate, proud and bold and almost clown like. Curious and mischevious, they are a very clever and may want to train their owner rather than the other way around. Devoted to their family, great traveling companions and do best with older, considerate children. Fun loving and fun to have around, the dachshund can be very expressive to let you know what they want. They tend to think they are much bigger than they are when they go into their "protection" mode.Care needs to be given to avoid back injury and they tend to over eat so they can easily become overweight. Many more positives about this breed than negatives. Once you experience a dachshund owning you, you will love the breed forever!
Who We Are
Save A Dachshund is dedicated to finding forever homes for the little dog with a big attitude. Dachshunds are a wonderful breed, loving, curious, playful and intelligent. Our mission is to place their welfare and humane treatment first and foremost. We exist for the sole purpose of matching suitable homes with one of our rescues to provide a long term, loving family environment that all will benefit. The adoption fee covers veterniary expenses, misc. collars, leashes, etc. The fees range from $175. to $240., depending on what all they need when they arrive at Save A Dachshund. Vet bills will be gladly provided for your review. Save A Dachshund is not a shelter but people dedicated to the breed. We foster our dogs until we match them to their forever home. If you are interested in fostering. please contact me. The more fosters I have, the more dachshunds I can rescue.
Adopting a friend
We have new rescues often so email what you are looking for in your new dachshund family member. Please check this site often as new rescues are listed to begin the application process. No rescue will be released until fully vet updated and fostered at least 3 weeks to evaluate their personalities to help match and insure a successful and happy adoption. So please be patient with the adoption process. It will help speed the process to email or fax the completed application to be verified prior to actually finding your new family member. I will keep the application on file and call you when a good match is available.
