Our Featured Pet...

Who We Are

Hartsville Humane Association is a non-profit, shelterless, all-breed rescue situated in the city of Hartsville in rural Trousdale County, the smallest county in the state of Tennessee. Our organization is made up of volunteers who love animals and are dedicated to improving conditions in our local dog pound and finding homes for as many of the adoptable stray animals housed there as our limited resources will allow. (The Trousdale County pound currently has no facility for cats - but Hartsville Humane is interested in both dog and cat welfare and attempts to address issues that pertain to both.) We receive no funding from government sources and rely completely on donor contributions to further the work we do. All of our dogs are either already spayed or neutered or will be delivered to the vet of their adopter’s choice to have spay/neuter surgery prior to adoption. We facilitate most animal adoptions solely through a foster care system. To the best of our ability, prior to placement we evaluate each dog's temperament and suitability for living with children, cats and other dogs. Our goal is to meet the specific needs of each dog as an individual and to assure proper placement in a nurturing forever home. All are current on vaccinations (excluding rabies unless otherwise noted), heartworm tested, treated for other health problems and are usually on flea and heartworm preventatives.

What We Do

Hartsville Humane’s mission is multifold. Our immediate goals are, 1) To better conditions in the local pound; 2) To find homes for as many adoptable homeless animals as we can from the local community; 3) To put an end to the needless killing of household pets by educating our community on the need for aggressive spay/neuter programs aimed at reducing the number of dogs and puppies that ultimately end up abandoned as strays or relinquished to animal control; 4) To sponsor low-cost and no-cost spay neuter programs for county residents, and; 5) To help pet owners with animal behavior issues with strategies that enable them to keep animals that they might otherwise choose to give up. Since we have no shelter, kennel or housing facility for animals, we are in constant need of volunteers to foster adoptable dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. This will often be on a very temporary basis - until they can be transported to no-kill facilities or permanent homes in northern and eastern states. We also welcome volunteers to help with other activities such as grant writing, community events, adoptathons, membership drives, roadblock collection drives, and transporting dogs for medical treatment.

Adopting a friend

We ask that you complete an adoption application which includes your vet reference. We also prefer to schedule a home visit to meet other members of your household and to see where the dog will live. If you are adopting from a distance, we ask that you email us digital photos of your home environment and we will conduct an interview with you over the phone. Upon approval we will need an adoption fee and signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees run from $35 to $200 depending on the type and age of the dog and the amount of medical treatment it has received in our care. In return for this you receive an animal that in most situations is likely to have received medical services that, if not provided by us, would cost you in excess of $200.

Come Visit Us!

Again, Hartsville Humane has no shelter, kennel or housing facility for our animals. Our rescues are living in foster care in private homes. Our volunteers can arrange to show you pets by appointment on weekdays, weekends or even in the evening hours - whatever is mutually convenient for you and for them. Hartsville is 15 minutes northwest of Carthage, 25 minutes northeast of Lebanon and about an hour’s drive northeast of Nashville. If you want more information about any of our animals or would like to visit with one, please don’t hesitate to contact Ginger, at fixm-now@hotmail.com or 615 374-4862.
