Volunteers

We have only one couple that volunteers to brings our dogs to Petsmart on Saturdays in hopes to give these deserving souls another shot at love with a permanent family. Thank goodness the dogs have these volunteers, they work tirelessly to get our animals into new homes using their days off. Since the shelter is closed on Saturdays, Petsmart off-site adoptions have become more important in getting our doggies exposure and new homes. Thank you, our volunteers! You know who you are and we appreciate all your hard work and love you give the pups!

We desperately need volunteers that have a truck with a hitch that can help transport the animals to Petsmart on Saturdays, if anyone can help please contact the shelter at 423-664-0271 or czagona@eastridgetn.org.

CITY RABIES ORDINANCE & CITY REGISTRATION ORDINANCE

East Ridge Residents all dogs & cats must have a current rabies vaccination (City Ordinance #10-206 Inoculation Required) and City Registration tag (City Ordinance #10-201) Registration of Animals

All pets (dogs & cats) over the age of 3 months must be vaccinated against rabies in the state of Tennessee. All pets (dogs & cats) within the City limits of East Ridge (37412) must be registered with East Ridge Animal Services.

Collegedale, Lakesite, Soddy Daisy, Signal Mountain, Red Bank & all Unincorporated Hamilton County residents must registered your animals with the Humane Educational Society 423-624-5302.

Residents from the Chattanooga City limits must register their animals with McKamey Animal Care & Adoption Center 423-305-6500.

East Ridge City registration tags are $5.00 if the pet is spayed/neutered and $25.00 if the pet is not spayed/neutered.

All residents that have not utilized one of the several rabies clinics during the month of April and for some reason we have to visit your home and find an unvaccinated & unregistered pet you will only have 72 hrs to have such pet vaccinated & registered, failure to comply will lead to a citation to court for failure to follow the State of Tennessee Vaccination law & City of East Ridge Registration ordinance.

Be a good pet owner, have your pets vaccinated against rabies and registered. Registering your pet is the best form of ID that you can put on your pet next to micro chipping. With your registration we can contact you any time of the day or night in the event your pet is ever injured or found stray by a citizen, while it is harder to contact the owner of a pet using the vets rabies tag information (during regular business hours).

Proper ID on your pet will insure that your lost or injured pet will always be reunited with you!

****Ask about our Guardian Angel Program****

The Guardian Angel Program enables you to help animals at our shelter by donating funds towards their adoption fee; you choose the animal you wish to help.

Many worthy families that would like to adopt but just can't afford the adoption fee can adopt an animal that has a Guardian Angel. So far we have had 80 animals adopted through this program.

Contact the shelter at 423-664-0271 or czagona@eastridgetn.org to find out more details.

Some people just want to help the animals in shelters and just don't know how to go about it, this is one way you can DIRECTLY affect the happy outcome of one of the pets at our shelter.

Our Featured Pets...

Say hello to Precious, she is not the mama dog to the tribe of six. The citizen that said he found her & the pups in his front yard lives down the road for the person that tried to surrender 6 pups last week. Precious is not happy at all, she is snappy and growls at everyone, she has had DA2PP & Bordatella on 1/13/2010 and that was not an easy task. Precious has turned into one of the friendless little ladies! Precious is available for adoption now, and she should be fine we are thinking she is just real protective of the pups. 2/8/2010 Precious has found a "Guardian Angel" that has paid her adoption fee. 2/10/2010 Precious was spayed at ERAH.

Say hello to Jena, she was rescued from the Superior Creek Lodge during the flood. Her owner called about two weeks ago but never showed up. We have had Jena for almost a month now so its time to find her a new home. Jena is super friendly and very playful.

Say hello to Sadie, she was running loose in a local neighborhood. Sadie is super friendly, she has had DA2PP & Bordatella on 1/25/2010. Sadie will be available for adoption on 1/29/2010. 2/8/2010 Sadie was spayed at ERAH. 2/16/2010 Sadie has found a "Guardian Angel" that has paid her adoption fee.

Say hello to Luke, he was running loose in a local neighborhood. Luke is friendly but a little nervous right now. Luke has had DA2PP & Bordatella on 12/30/2009 and if not claimed by his owner Luke will be available for adoption on 1/1/6/2010. 1/20/2010 Luke was neutered at CVC today.

Say hello to Josie, her owner moved and left her so a neighbor has been feeding her for the past few months. Josie is friendly but scared right now. Josie has had FRcP on 12/4/2009 and is available for adoption now.

Say hello to Boyd, he had been loose and a citizen found his owner last week through the tags he had on, well he came back last week and he didn't have any tags on this time. The citizen told us where he lived but the owner is in the process of moving, an impound notice was left. A neighbor stop the officer and told him that the owner had let the dog out of his fence Friday afternoon, he told the owner the dog was loose but the owner only said "I know". If not claimed by his owner Boyd will be available for adoption on 1/18/2010. Boyd has had DA2PP & Bordatella on 1/9/2010. 1/27/2010 Boyd was neutered at ERAH.

Say hello to Nibo, he had been loose in a local neighborhood bothering the neighbors dogs. Nibo seems real friendly and playful, he has two collars on and a broken cable attached to his collar. Nibo broke loose from his cable and decided to check out the area. Nibo has had DA2PP & Bordatella on 11/24/2009. If not claimed by his owner Nibo will be available for adoption on 12/1/2009.

Say hello to Lacy, her family moved off and left her but some neighbors kept her for a while but had to surrender her because they couldn't keep her in their house. Lacy is real friendly and has had DA2PP & Bordatella on 11/19/2009. Lacy is available for adoption now.

Say hello to Dugan, he has been running loose for several days but we have not been able to find him. A citizens dogs had pinned a runner up against a fence and the police called us. After citing the owner for the dogs RAL she also had Dugan in her house. Dugan is real friendly but her does not like cats, Dugan has had DA2PP & Bordatella on 1/9/2010. If not claimed by his owner Dugan will be available for adoption on 1/14/2010. 1/25/2010 Dugan was neutered at CVC.

2010 News

We will continue to do our best to find placement for all animals that come into our care, we know that people will continue to dump animals within the City limits of East Ridge, we know that people will continue to lie to us when surrendering an animal because it's their animal or a friend from Chattanooga. So 2010 should be an interesting year for ERAS. We are also working with some neighborhood watch programs within the City, these citizens are our eyes at night when people try to abandon an animal in their neighborhood. BEWARE we have many eyes, and we will get your car tag and then you will get a visit from an officer.

We are a very small shelter with extremely limited space. We are unable to accept animals from other areas; proof of residence will have to be given when surrendering any animal.

Please do not have a friend from East Ridge surrender your animal as theirs. We do check up on all suspicious surrenders. And do not surrender your animal to us as a stray, that is just wrong and we can tell if you are the owner.

We have the reputation of finding our animals new homes or getting them into rescue, but it's not our responsibility to find "YOUR" animal a new home, we are the last RESORT.

We have only ONE main cat rescuer and only ONE dog volunteer that brings the dogs to Petsmart to increase their chances for finding new homes. We would like to thank our other couple that helps with the dogs every other week with getting the dogs to Petsmart.

So, you can do the math on your own, our resources are extremely limited and so is our kennel and cat cage space.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO FIND YOUR ANIMAL A NEW HOME, REMEMBER YOUR PET IS A FAMILY MEMBER, NOT A THROW A-WAY OR RECYCLABLE ITEM THAT CAN JUST BE THROWN AWAY WHEN YOU ARE TIRED OF IT. YOUR ANIMAL IS A LIVING BREATHING, CARING CREATURE THAT DESERVES BETTER! THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU SURRENDER YOUR FAMILY MEMBER, THE CHOICE YOU MAKE WILL ALWAYS STAY WITH YOU!

Please do not have a friend that lives in East Ridge surrender your animal, this is not fair to the animals from East Ridge.

If you live outside of East Ridge and need to surrender an animal we can provide rescue contacts but we can not take your animal.

Please remember WE are NOT a RESCUE group but an ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITY. We can not guarantee that your surrendered animal will find a new loving home.

"NOTICE"

SINCE PEOPLE HAVE FOUND IT NECESSARY TO ABANDON THEIR ANIMALS AT THE SHELTER AFTER WE CLOSE, WE HAVE BEEN FORCED TO INSTALLED SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS THANKS TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. CAR TAGS CAN BE SEEN FROM THESE CAMERAS, IF CAUGHT YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED FOR STATE ANIMAL ABANDONMENT!

We would like to thank our citizens for providing car tags of people trying to abandon their animals at night in East Ridge.

REMEMBER, ALL WE NEED IS YOUR CAR TAG AND A WITNESS IN ORDER TO PROSECUTE FOR STATE ANIMAL ABANDONMENT!

Please remember for animal emergencies DO NOT call 911 for a stray or a dog running at large after-hours. Stray animals or dogs running at large are not considered an emergency and no Animal Services Officer will be dispatched.

If you have a stray animal please call the shelter and leave a message and we will run the complaint the next business day.

When making a complaint please provide the owners address if known & animal description. This will enable our officer to talk to the owner and remedy the problem quickly.

Thanks to All Our friends and Volunteers

We would like to thank all the rescue groups for the help in cross posting our animals, to date we have had several rescue groups take animals from the shelter. Without these groups help our animals would not of found the help they needed in finding a new loving home. Please donate to your local rescue groups; this will enable them to continue the hard work they do for the animals.

We would also like to thank the Best Friends Network for their members help in finding rescues and donations for our shelter, and we would also like to thank C.A.R.E for rescuing many kitties and pups and the Pet Placement Center for rescue help and all the numerous rescues that have helped.

We couldn't of found as many homes to date without the tireless effort given by Cindy Viar on Saturday's at Petsmart! Stop by and say "THANK YOU" for all she's doing to help the shelter animals!

We would also like to thank Danny Viar, Jack Bosch for helping transport the animals to Petsmart! We would also like to thank the staff at New Leash On Life Thrift Store for their donations to our Guardian Angel program.

Donations/Wish list

We are in need of blankets for our furry friends, We could also use DRY DOG (Pedigree) & PUPPY FOOD (Pedigree), KITTEN FOOD, CAT LITTER (Tidy Cat), CARRIERS/CRATES. Toys would be great for everyone, but please washable toys only (hard rubber) for the dogs. We don't want them ingesting any of the tear up kind of toys like stuffed animals and such. We will accept any donation. Nothing goes to waste. If you would like to just come and visit the animals, that would be AWESOME! The doggies need walks and quality time spent one on one with caring individuals. We encourage the citizens of East Ridge and people everywhere to visit the shelter and just spend time with the animals. They desperately need the affection and exercise.

You can also see our adoptable pets in Critter magazine, we also list our animals on 1-800-save-a-pet.com, Pets 911, and some of our animals can be seen on KZ-106 Kelly McCoys Pet Project page. We do post our animals on several web sites to get the animals more exposure; it has been working great for us.
