Hay Source Needed
We are looking for a source of good-quality timothy or mixed-grass hay within an hour of Memphis. Needs to be low-dust -- our rabbits live indoors, and the level of dust that outside horses can tolerate is too much for us. We are currently having our feeder hay shipped in and supplementing with local bermuda, but the shipping costs are high. We don't need more than a bale a month. PLEASE contact us at rabbitwise@boldraven.com if you know of a local source where we can purchase good feeder hay.
Rabbits Need Homes
In October 2005, 65 rabbits were taken into rescue from a single home in the Nashville area. Here is the link to the Bunny Rescue story and photo album (warning: some graphic photos of injuries): http://www.rabbit.org/care/tenn.html)
Rabbitwise was asked to help find homes for them. We took in one adult, Persephone, and her litter of seven. She immediately had a second litter, of which four survived. We have placed five of the older litter, but still have several wonderful rabbits available.
If you want to help, but can't take in a rabbit, please consider a donation of money, supplies, or time. All donations are tax-deductible, and we can pick up donations within an hour's drive.
Rabbitwise needs:
- Timothy or other grass hay
- Soft clean Bermuda grass hay (or hybrid, like Tifton or Ozarka)
- Timmy Rabbit Pellets from American Pet Diner (www.americanpetdiner.com) or Bunny Basics/T from Oxbow (www.oxbowhay.com or locally at VetPets)
- Snap-together storage cube panels, sometimes called "Neat Idea Cubes" or "Organize-It" cubes (available at Target)
- Food/water crocks

Who We Are
Rabbitwise (Memphis) is a branch of Rabbitwise, Inc., a national organization based in the DC metro area.
Rabbitwise is an all volunteer, non-profit organization (501c3 public charity) whose primary client is the domestic rabbit.
Our mission:
- to PREVENT irresponsible acquisition and care of companion rabbits;
- to improve RETENTION rates of rabbits already living in homes in order to avoid them being relinquished or abandoned;
- to EDUCATE persons who live with, shelter, and/or treat rabbits to give them the best care possible;
- to ADVOCATE for the broader welfare of rabbits in general.
Join Us!
Are you a rabbit-savvy person? Do you have room in your heart, home, budget, and schedule to foster a rabbit? Are you already fostering informally? Volunteer with Rabbitwise! Memphis-area rabbits need your help -- there is no other rabbit-focused organization for hundreds of miles around. We need to build a strong network of rabbit fosterers (and maybe, eventually, a real shelter).
Email us at rabbitwise@boldraven.com for more information.

Adopting a friend
|
To inquire about an animal, please contact the fosterer directly.
Note: all animals fostered through Rabbitwise are placed on a pet-only contract. They may not be bred, sold, given away, or otherwise disposed of. If you find you cannot keep the rabbit, you must return him or her to the fosterer.
Our adoption fees are $75 for a single, $120 for a bonded pair. This covers about half the cost of spaying/neutering. (Spayed/neutered rabbits have better manners and are better with their litter boxes. Also, an unspayed female's chances of developing cancer are more than 50%!) We bring our rabbits to their new homes with their litter pans (the familiar smell helps them make the transition), their toys, and a two-week supply of food and hay.
ADOPTION PROCEDURES
- Contact us!
- Come visit the rabbits and fill out an application.
- Go home, think about it for a few days. If you are sure you can commit to the care of a companion rabbit, let us know.
- Prepare! Order hay and pellets. Set up the habitat. Make a vet appointment for a "well rabbit" exam.
- We bring the rabbit to your home and check the arrangements. If we are satisfied, you sign the adoption agreement and give us the adoption donation. Your new best friend stays with you.
- We will contact you from time to time to make sure everything is okay, and you can always contact us with any questions, concerns, or rabbit stories or pictures you want to share.
