Sometimes just a few extra days can mean the difference between life and death for a dog on "death row" at animal shelters. We're often asked to rescue gentle, well-mannered, healthy dogs from animal control shelters and emergency situations. Our ability to help these animals is limited to the availability of foster homes. If you love animals, please consider opening your heart and home to one that might otherwise die. Fostering an animal is an incredibly rewarding experience.

Adopting a friend

Please contact the individual listed on each pet profile for more information on adopting that specific dog. All dog or puppy adoptions start with the written adoption application that helps us know your family a little better so we can match you with the best dog or puppy available through our Rescue. A vet reference is checked , phone interview, and a homevisit. are a part of the approval process. Most out-of-state adoptions are permitted and all applicants are screened equally regardless of location. Our requested adoption fee donation is $250.00 . Your donation is immediately available to help us help the next dog in need, including paying for pull fees from shelters, spay/neuters, all shots including bordatella, deworming, heartworm screening, heartworm and flea preventative, grooming and any other costs which may be incurred. We can help arrange transport in some areas with professional transporters who charge a fee, but Mid-South Great Pyrenees Rescue does not keep this fee and it is not part of the adoption fee. A fully executed Adoption Contract is required before any adoption is finalized.
The new owner must agree to always keep this dog within a fenced yard (not on a chain) -OR- supervised on a leash, to never leave this dog outside when nobody is home, to never allow the dog to be tied to a doghouse or to a chain, nor left unsupervised in a yard for extremely long periods thus resulting in the dogs possible digging, climbing out, or barking endlessly. Simply said, we want you to keep your new furry friend happy, healthy,and safe.

Please do your breed research when considering adopting a Great Pyrenees. While they are undoubtedly spectacular to look at, they are not a suitable breed for everyone. They are an ancient breed that has not changed in centuries. They DO barkl, they DO drool, they DO like to check out what's happening on the other side of the neighborhood if they are not fenced in appropriately or on a leash. The majority of Great Pyrenees listed on this site are available for adoption as companion animals, not LGD's or guard dogs, and require an indoor, loving home. While we do realize the Pyrenees is a working breed, we have very few LGD foster homes available to test a dog for a working placement, and all of our adoptable dogs have proven to be well suited for a family pet situation.
