*ABOUT HANNAH'S BEAGLE HAVEN*

At Hannah's Beagle Haven our goal is to match you with the perfect pet for a lifetime. Sometimes that just might "NOT" be the one you saw on the website. We spend a lot of time getting to know our pets and want to place them in the home that fits them. We therefore require that BEFORE visiting these animals, you complete an adoption application and have it approved by our staff. This helps us assess exactly what you are looking for in a pet. Once we review your application, we will contact you with information we have on that animal or one we feel is a better match. If you are interested, then we can make an appointment for you to come and meet and see if we have made the "perfect match".

Thousands of animals die each year because irresponsible owners neglect them, let them breed or just decide they no longer want their animals. Owning a pet is a lifetime commitment. Our adoption program is designed to ensure the placement of our animals into permanent, responsible homes. We are looking for homes that understand that adopting a pet is a 10 to 15 year commitment to love and care for this homeless animal's needs.

One of the most frequently asked e-mail questions is; "Is the beagle housebroken?" We will never tell you that any of our rescue beagles are housebroken. We ask that you assume that the beagle is not; all dogs have to learn to be "housebroken" in a new environment. They have to learn where to go out, YOU have to learn their signals that they need to go. We crate train the beagles, which helps, and we recommend that you continue with the crate at night, and we give you hints on how to housebreak.

*NEWS*

*** Please don't litter.....have your pets spayed and neutered!***

Due to the possibility of the new pet not working out for the needs and/or expectations of the adopter we prefer not to adopt our dogs to homes more than two hours away from the Nashville, Tennessee area, however in certain circumstances we will be most happy to consider making exceptions.

*WHO WE ARE*

Hannah's Beagle Haven is an all volunteer organization that rescues homeless Beagles and sometimes other breeds who might need our help and we strive to find qualified, permanent, adoptive homes for them. We can accept other breeds than those in the Beagle family when we have space for them. Our dogs are rescued from: animal shelters, humane societies, etc. as well as situations of neglect and cruelty, and owners who can no longer give their Beagles a home.

We are a breed rescue organization, not a shelter. Our Beagles live in our home based facility as we help these dogs prepare for new families. In the home environment we are able to evaluate the dog's temperament and behavior patterns away from the stress of shelter life.

Hannah's Beagle Haven is funded entirely through our own pocketbook, adoption fees, donations and the generosity our volunteer members. We believe very strongly in responsible pet ownership and strive to give our friends a loving, caring and responsible home. Proper screening of each adopter's application helps us ensure that our friends will be given the quality of life that she/he needs. Our love for animals and the well being of animals is the motivating force behind our mission. We simply want to do our part in helping some of the unwanted animals to experience a quality life and to return the love many people are willing to give them.

*WHAT IS A BEAGLE?*

From ancient times beagles were used as hunting dogs in Greece and France. In the 11th century Great Britain adopted the beagle from France and it became popular with the monarchy. There existed Glove Beagles, Pocket Beagle (named for their size-about 9 inches- which needed assistance in crossing rough fields, but were especially loved by ladies who could follow the hunt thanks to the dogs) and Singing Beagles (named for the voice). Due to the popularity of fox hunting, the foxhound became more popular than the beagle. In the beginning of the 19th century the precursors of the modern beagle were established. They were excellent pack hounds trained to track foxes. In 1876 beagles appeared in America. The American beagle is smaller because it was bred for rabbit hunting.

Nowadays there exist many beagle clubs, which hold field trials. The beagle can hunt various games: rabbits, hare, raccoons, and birds. Beagles are very responsive , naturally curious, and wonderful companions. Beagles are affectionate and adore children. However, small children must always be supervised when playing with any dog.

Beagles has multitude of talents: it retrieves on land and water, seeks and chases. He is a faithful, loyal friend who loves and trusts everyone. The beagle can be used as a therapy dog and a companion for elderly people. USDA uses beagles for detecting prohibited plants, animals and their products, arson accelerants at fires and even termites.

*WE LOVE OUR BEAGLES!*

We love our animals and hope you will too. If you are serious about adopting one of our animals, please e-mail us for an application or for more information on one of our listed pets to tracydavidt@aol.com, and we'll get back with you as soon as possible. When you complete your application, we will review it, and then call you to discuss your request.

Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue. We are looking forward to your application.

However, please give some thought to the following areas before adopting any pet:

* The amount of time you can give an animal*

* The size and type of home you can give an animal (for instance, do you plan to keep the animal inside or in a fenced area?...do you live in town or on a farm?)*

* The number of people and other animals in your household*

* Your experience with animals*

The more we know about the kind of home you can provide, the better pet/people match we can provide!

*ADOPTING A FRIEND*

Our adoption fee is a $50 - $95 donation to help the next animal that is in need. The donation helps cover spay or neuter, HW test, Rabies vaccine, de-wormer and the yearly vaccine. Including any treatment or medical care our rescues need.

All pets must have a leash, collar and name tag with new owners phone number(s) before they leave our hands. Because of their natural instincts, we require that all of our Beagles be placed in homes with fenced yards.
