Large and Small Animal Rescue

We regret that we are no longer able to do rescue at this time. We hope the day comes when we can re-open and continue to foster and rescue.

Maggie and Jackson (formerly Brownie and Bear) at home in their new forever home in Indiana. They are growing and they are loved by their new adoptive family! Another Happy Tail for Critterhaven!!

Meet Seana. She has gone to a wonderful loving home in Delaware after being rescued from a kill shelter in Cleveland, TN. Months later, she is now fulfilling her potential as a service dog for her disabled veteran owner/handler. Way to go Seana!!

Who We Are

We are a small farm in southern middle TN who fosters and rescues Keeshonds, Australian Shepherds, and Miniature Schnauzers and occasionally other purebreds to place in adoption waiting for their forever homes. I am a caring individual who loves animals (ask my husband and friends!). It's that simple. This started as a brainchild of mine and I hope it will grow in the way that it is needed in this area. Critterhaven operates out of my own pocket and the few donations we receive along the way. All of the adoption fees go back to the vet care that the animals in rescue receive. These may include spays and neuters, vaccinations, testing, and treatments. My love originally started with just Keeshonds, but has grown just as our small farm has. I am non-profit and operate out of a single household, and the initial money/investment/supplies come out of my pockets.

What we really need here at Critterhaven is some labor, building pens and fencing, and moving pens. We cannot afford to pay for the labor we need. We will provide the supplies if you can provide the time and labor. I am a 41 year old mom of two under the age of 5 and hubby has heart problems, so our labor force is limited!! Email me if you would like to help out one weekend or even weekdays! We will even feed you and your family while you are here and offer a camper for you to stay in with water and power.

If you would like to make a donation to Critterhaven you can do so by mailing a check or money order to our rescue veterinarians listed above, or to us directly at Critterhaven, PO Box 31, Belfast TN 37019 or sending a paypal payment through the link below:

Adopting a friend

You MUST fill out an adoption form before you will even be considered to adopt an animal from Critterhaven. I must have it in hand and have checked out your references before you will be approved for the adoption. And I do check references, calling both your veterinarian and your landlord if applicable.

Whether adopting an animal or volunteering to take and foster home a pet, rest assured that compatability is a key issue with me. You will have to meet the criteria for both adopting and fostering a pet. These will be discussed with you upon contact. Most of these animals have probably been traumatized enough in their lives. My goal is to see that each animal finds it's place in the world, and I will do my best to see that your home is that place. All dogs and cats will be spayed or neutered before leaving my home if we have the financial resources to do so. If not it will be your responsibility as a pet owner to do so.
Adoption fees range from $15 for rabbits to $150 for the dogs. Cats fall into the middle category at around $35. All cats and dogs in accordance with TN state law will be given a Rabies vaccination if old enough. All dogs will be on Heartworm preventative after being tested. Puppies and kittens will receive their first vaccinations prior to the adoption. They will also be dewormed and pups started on Frontline and Heartgard at 8 weeks old.

We are NOT a kennel situation or a shelter that is available to the viewing public. You cannot come tour but you are free to call to setup a time to come see the pet you are interested in. NO HOLDS. This is not a flea market where I can hold an animal til you decide whether you can find the time for it or not. If you are not truly interested then don't waste my time and yours possibly removing the chance the animal can find it's forever home. I'm available most times anyday for you to visit your prospective pet. Please call or email ahead of time to set up a time to meet. I do adopt out of state, but it is up to you to arrange transportation for your new adoptee. I will work with any and all rescue groups once arranged to get your pet to you. I make no money at this since most spays and neuters are well over $50 and my adoption fee does little to cover this and vaccinations. My goal is simply to place animals where they will have a forever home. If you cannot keep the animal you adopted you must return them to me and not expect a refund. Also do not insult me by asking me to lower my already low adoption fees. Email me for a copy of the adoption application or download a copy at this link - Critterhaven Adoption Form - MSWord Format
