Hello fellow animal lover! I'm Karen Josephson. As the new Director of Montgomery County Animal Control I WELCOME you to our Petfinder page! I took this position on August 22, 2011. I was previously the Director of Cheatham County Animal Control (also Tennessee).
We impound over 6,500 unwanted animals per year in Montgomery County. That's two times the size of my hometown in Wisconsin! Totally unacceptable. We CAN do better!
And we already are in the the 5 short months I've been on board!
We NO LONGER euthanize bully breeds (and others) upon arrival. We NO LONGER practice breed discrimination at Montgomery County Animal Control!
What you will find in our listings are an amazing group of dogs and cats - updated TWICE a week - and honest descriptions about the animals. We work with transports and
out of state rescues and adopters now too! Perhaps we have that perfect companion for you!
Adopting a Friend
Our adoption fees are $87.00. This includes a $50.00 certificate towards the cost of the spay or neuter and a $12.00 certificate towards the cost of the Rabies vaccination and county registration fee.. These certificates are redeemable at any Montgomery County Veterinary Clinic. (Some vets here WILL perform the services for JUST the voucher!)
Come Visit Us!
We have new hours for 2012!!! Monday.Tuesday/Friday/Saturday = 10am to 3pm. Thursdays 10am - 7pm for adoptions! We are closed to the public on Sundays and Wednesdays. Wednesdays we are still fully staffed and go out on all calls as usual!!
Fort Campbell Military Base is in our county. It is VERY difficult to manage the number of animals we get from soldiers being deployed. There are other programs in our area for this issue -but these programs are not utilized. We get animals who are shocked, depressed and displaced...having lived in a home usually for 9 months and then geting surrendered. Most of these animals are extra large breeds with a limited amount of time spent with them. Rotties, Huskies, Bully Breeds, German Shepherds, and more...
We have an unusually large Bully Breed population in our county. Due to the backyard breeders who try to make money from selling this breed. Sadly - they refuse to realize that there are already TOO MANY unwanted Pitties and Pittie mixes with nowhere to go. We temperament test our dogs and do not adopt out any uncentered animals. I personally do home visits on all bully breed adoptions.
We are located at 616 N. Spring St. From 41A N (Ft. Campbell Blvd.) turn right onto Riverside Drive, then left by Sonic Drive-in. From 41A Bypass (Ashland City Rd.) continue until Riverside Dr. turning right at Sonic Drive-in. We are the large tan building. You can't miss us!
On behalf of all the sweet but unwanted animals at our facility - and all around us - I THANK YOU for considering adopting a shelter animals!
Sincerely - Karen Josephson, Director, Montgomery County Animal Control
