Who We Are
Montgomery County Animal Control and Adoption Services is directed by David Selby and governed by the animal control committee. Our primary focus is:
Enforcement of Animal Control Laws,
Control of the stray animal population,
Reduction in animal bite cases,
Rabies Control Authority, and
Public health, safety and welfare.
Stray animals are held for 3 business days pending reclaim by their owner. Animals with rabies vaccination tags are held for 5 business days.(TCA 68-8-107) After the holding period they are placed up for adoption or euthanatized dependent upon space and temperment.
Adopting a Friend
We are so glad that you are interested in adoption and are considering giving one of our animals a new home! Your first step should be to come to the shelter and visit the pet you are interested in. Once you have made a decision, you will need to fill out an adoption contract and pay the adoption fees. We only do on site adoptions. If you are not in the local area, feel free to contact us and we will fax or e-mail any forms or information that is needeed. However, we do not have the resources to arrange transportation. That is the responsibility of the adopter.
As animal control for the Clarksville/Montgomery County area, (584 sq. miles) we are working very hard to reduce the number of stray and abandoned animals. Tennessee Spay/Neuter Law requires all adopted animals to be altered prior to going home if of age. We will transport adopted animals to a veterinarian within Montgomery County to be altered. Our adoption fees are $87.00. This includes a $50.00 certificate towards the cost of the spay or neuter and a $12.00 certificate towards the cost of the Rabies vaccination and county registration fee.. These certificates are redeemable at any Montgomery County Veterinary Clinic.
If a rescue organization is interested in adopting one of our animals that is wonderful! We welcome you and have a separate fee schedule for you. However, we do wish to stress that all adoptions must take place here at our center and transportation is your responsibility. We also will need a brochure or informational flyer about your organization complete with business address and phone number in addition to one of your own adoption applications for our records.
