DECATUR COUNTY HUMANE ASSOCIATION (a not-for-profit 50l-(c)-(3) organization)

- A Dozen Active Volunteers
- LIMITED FOSTERS - PLEASE foster if you can (even a few months is helpful)! Leash training (and crate training if possible) is a MUST to get pets adopted!
- No Shelter
- No County Animal Control (so there's no place for unwanted pets, thus, causing misery, cruelty and death!)
- MANY homeless pets are dropped off as is mentioned in the heartbreaking poem above!

PRIORITIES:
- Fighting Pet Overpopulation (low cost spay/neuter program for dogs/cats of county residents who qualify) that's dependent upon availability of grant funds.
~E-mail DecaturCoPets@Live.com for a spay/neuter application or pick one up at Decatur County Animal Clinic, Animal Care Clinic or Smoochers Pet Salon.
- Rescuing puppies and their mothers (if space is available) so they can be quickly adopted or transported to the northeast to loving FOREVER homes.
- Rescuing other canines, if space is available, but 95% of the time, we DO NOT HAVE THE SPACE since there are so few foster homes.
- Providing some assistance to felines (food and some medical care) when funds are available.

FOR FREQUENT UPDATES: See our YAHOO MESSAGE BOARD (lost/found pets, events, free ad posting, etc.) You can read the messages even if you are not a member. To post an ad, you will need to join the message board, but that's FREE, QUICK and EASY!

Adopting A Friend:

Prior to adoption, all animals will have been spayed/neutered, quarantined for two weeks, made current on their shots (includes rabies if they’re old enough), de-wormed at least twice, tested for heartworm, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis and Lyme Disease, started on heartworm preventive and the adopter will receive a copy of their health record.

Tennessee Adoption Fees:
Males (up to 1 year of age): $120
Females (up to 1 year of age): $150
Males and Females (over 1 year of age): $100

To have a dog transported to the northeast so you can pick them up at your preferred stop, please contact the Adoption Coordinator (DecaturCoPets@Live.com) for fees since additional vetting is required for transport. We use P.E.T.S. Transport and they make SATURDAY stops in 8 cities: Hagerstown, MD - Allentown, PA - Pluckemin, NJ - Nanuet, NY - Glastonbury, CT - Plainfield, CT - Windham, NH - Hampton, NH
