Adoption Information

ADOPTION DAYS for dogs and cats are the 1st , 2nd and 5th Saturday of every month at Petco-Cordova at 1250 Germantown Parkway in Cordova .
Hours: 1 pm - 4 pm. Please check times as they may vary.

On the 3rd and 4th weekends, SFARR also has a CAT ONLY adoption event at Petco-Germantown at 7680 Poplar Avenue in Germantown.
Hours: 1 pm - 5 pm. Please check days and times as they may vary.

Fenced yards of at least 6' are required on most adoptions, and we make local adoptions only, as a home visit is required prior to approval of adoption. Vet references and/or personal references are also required before approval of adoption. E-mail us for a copy of our adoption and agreement forms. We hold the right to refuse adoptions not meeting our guidelines. If you see a pet on our website, call or e-mail and an appointment will be made to arrange for you to meet the pet once you have been approved for the adoption. Meetings are only made at local pet stores, parks or your home, as we do not allow visits in the foster homes. SFARR dogs and cats are micro-chipped for their safety. The adoption fee is $95 and includes spaying/neutering, heartworm testing (dogs), Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids testing (cats), micro-chipping, and routine vaccinations.

SFARR is temporarily full at this time. However, if you have found a pet, please call 901-482-9921 or e-mail us at
St Francis Animal Rescue Refuge as we may still be able to help you. If you adopted one of our rescues and can not keep them for whatever reason, please call us or e-mail us as we always try to take any of our rescues back.

Fundraising Events

The SFARR garage sale on June 20 was a great success thanks to a last minute donation of BRAND NEW toys and games by the same family who adopted Winston. Our final total was over $700! Thanks to everyone who gave a donation or stopped by to do some shopping.

The feast day of St. Francis of Assisi is the first weekend of October 2009. Our Blessing of the Pets schedule for October 2009 is as follows:
1.) St. Francis of Assisi Church, 8151 Chimney Rock Blvd, Cordova (corner of Chimney Rock and Germantown)
2.) St. Phillips Church in Somerville, TN

Volunteers are especially needed for fundraising. If you are interested in this area, please call 901-482-9921 or email SFARR to volunteer or to share any fundraising ideas.

Our Needs

SFARR is in the process of planning to convert a large shed into a kennel area for our dogs. Since the building is already up, we can immediately begin to refurbish the inside with our kennel spaces. We are in need of building supplies such as concrete, concrete blocks, rebar, metal fence posts, welded wire or cyclone fencing, an electric water heater, and the services of a licensed electrician as well as monetary donations to complete this project. This building will be heated and air-conditioned for the dogs. We will have a bathing room so the dogs can have a bath before going to their forever homes. The individual kennels will have dog beds, and the dogs will have a doggie door leading outside to their fenced yards. If you can help, please let us know.

St. Francis Animal Rescue & Refuge is 100% dependent on donations and adoptions fees. All animals are in foster family homes, receiving care and attention. Monetary donations are needed for vet bills and general care of the animals, and donations of fencing, gates, posts, and bags of concrete would be welcome. Fencing need not be new just in good condition. We also need donations of flea prevention (Frontline or Advantage) and heartworm preventative (Heartgard or Interceptor).

Please stop by our adoption days and fundraising events to sponsor a pet or make a donation.

Volunteer Recruitment

Adoption days: Volunteers are needed to talk to possible adopters about our animals, handle the dogs and cats while at the event, and to unload and load supplies.

Foster Care: Volunteers are needed to foster an animal (dog or cat) in their home. Many of these animals are in need of socialization and basic obedience training and may have been abused in the past. The length of fostering depends on the adoptability of the animal.

Public Relations: Volunteers are needed for our PR/Marketing committee.

Fundraising: Volunteers are needed for our fundraising committee to raise money for care of SFARR animals.

Dog Care: SFARR needs help with dog care, such as walking, playing with and socializing the dogs, and giving baths.

To help in any of these areas, please call 901-482-9921 or email: stfrancisrescues@comcast.net

All donations are tax deductible. SFARR will pickup any donation.
