Do you presently own other pets? How will they and the new pet interact?
Are you prepared for time and financial responsibilities?
If you don’t own, are pets allowed in your rental or lease agreement?
If you have answered yes, then let’s move on!

To be a responsible pet owner and ensure my pet(s) will not be a nuisance to the community?
