Featured Cat - SOPHIE!!

Sophie is a very sweet and affectionate older female calico. Our best guess is that she is around 9 years old, which is technically middle aged since some cats live to be 20+! She has lost some teeth due to her age so she has been eating mostly canned food as kibble is too hard on her remaining teeth and gums. She gets along well with other cats and doesn't appear to have issues with dogs when they walk by her condo. She wants nothing more than to have a lap of her own to curl up on. Please give this sweetheart a forever home!

Featured Dog - JESSE!!!

Handsome Jesse is a 6 year old Collie cross male. He used to live on a farm but has a bit of wander lust and was picked up in town by the dog catcher one too many times that his owner decided not to take him back. Jesse would need to go to a home with a fenced in yard and with someone to give him lots of exercise. Jesse loves to go for walks, both on and off leash. He's been on a few walks at St. Cyr trails with up to 15 other dogs and did great! However, in the shelter setting he's been having some troubles getting along with other dominant dogs...though when hiking at St. Cyr with the same dogs there were no issues, so we believe it's a "territory" situation. He would do best in a situation as an only dog, or with a younger, submissive dog. Jesse loves car rides and is an awesome traveler! He is good with cats. He is very playful and loves toys, rawhides, and a good game of fetch. He is excellently socialized with kids. He came from a home with older kids, and spent some time with some younger kids at a "Best Friends" photo shoot and did well. He should probably go to a home with older kids as he's a large dog and could easily knock over a toddler. He loves when students from the community come to the shelter and take him for walks. He's developed some pretty strong bonds with some of the students, and had their parents not said no, he'd be theirs! Jesse wants nothing more than to settle down and be a part of a family again. Call today to meet Jesse!

PLEASE NOTE: We have been having technical issues and have not been receiving adoption applications. If you fill out an application please follow up with a phone call or email to verify it has been received.

NOTE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN-ADOPTERS: MLDHS is a volunteer run operation - on occasion we MAY be able to provide transportation of a pet towards North Battleford, Saskatoon and sometimes towards Edmonton or Regina but ONLY if we have a volunteer making a trip out of town. If transportation should be available for your pet - fuel costs will be charged accordingly. Please check with us once your application is approved to see if transportation may be available at that time. Please remember that it is the responsibility of the adopter not MLDHS to arrange for transportation of the pet. We will certainly try to accommodate should a volunteer be making a trip your direction, but we cannot guarantee a ride will be available at any time. Thank you! Please also send an email after you fill out the application to verify that it was received. Thanks!

Adopting a Friend If you are interested in adopting any of our animals please fill out an application. Once your application is received and reviewed you will be contacted by email. This process may take a few days so please be patient!

All animals old enough and ready for adoption by the MLDHS will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. If the animal is not old enough for altering, you are to bring it back to the Vet Clinic of OUR CHOICE by the date noted on the Adoption Contract for the procedure. The cost of this procedure to the society is included in the adoption fees. Vaccinations: Animals may have already received their first shots and Rabies Vaccination. If they have not received their booster, you are responsible for ensuring that they receive it, along with a rabies immunization if they were too young to receive it while in our care. As well all dogs and puppies will be microchipped - this cost is also included in our adoption fees. Cats can be Microchipped for an extra fee of $20.00 All of our adopted animals come with 30-days complementary Shelter Care Pet Insurance.

MLDHS is in need of Foster Homes!! Both Full-time & Part-time! If you are uncertain about adopting a dog and the commitment involved, please consider becoming a weekend foster home! You can take a shelter dog into your home for a weekend to give it the experience of a home environment, lots of attention, and socialization, as well as a much needed break from the shelter! Many great shelter dogs are with us for long periods of time, and while we try to make their stay in the shelter as comfortable as possible, nothing is better than being in a home, even if it's just for a couple of days! If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in doing, please contact MLDHS.

Who We Are

The Meadow Lake & District Humane Society was formed in the summer of 2003. The MLDHS is an animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, unwanted, and abandoned animals. Our other main objective is to spread the spay/neuter message in an effort to prevent overpopulation. All of our income is derived from memberships, donations, adoption fees, and income from doing pound maintenance for the Town of Meadow Lake. Memberships can be purchased - please email us for details.

Donate a Bed

Thanks to the generosity of our community and Kuranda/Petfinder, we now have enough Kuranda beds for all of the dogs in our shelter! These beds have definitely made a difference in the lives of shelter dogs. Kuranda now offers cat beds & cat towers.
