On Feb 16, KC and the cats were faced with one of the scariest fears one always never wants to experience. FIRE. It was started from our natural gas dryer which was not even running at the time! But what we want to share with you the story of why it did not get worse. You see, we have a sick cat in a quarantine room in a different part of our building. She has upper respiratory and needs to be kept secluded from the other cats. Since she has not been eating well, the lady here (Sheila, our part time employee) decided to go check on her and feed her some more soft food. Those extra 15 minutes made a big difference as no one would have been in the building anymore. The fire department responded quickly and Larry Wilkie (a member of the fire department) ran directly over from his shop just across the street. Things were in control quickly which made a huge difference. Thank you Sheila for doing everything right … you proved to everyone how well you do in a crisis! But back to our sick kitten who had no name at the time. She has her name now that is so meant to be hers. “Blessing”.
For she is a true Blessing to us all! If your heart wants to help right now, donations would really be appreciated. We could use toys, cat beds, blankets, etc. Or if you would rather make a cash donation which is a benefit to you for income tax that would be great. Insurance claims can be difficult and some things may not be covered or only a % because of depreciation. It can get very confusing. We are grateful that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but could really use some support right now. The cats need your help!
Thank you!
Donations will be issued a tax receipt as KC is a registered charity
I turn 5 years old this month. Everyone has been coming in and saying "Happy Birthday, Dori!". You're probably saying "Congratulations". Except, it's not a happy day for me -- you see, I'm a shelter kitten, correction, a shelter cat. Very few people look at the cats at KC Rescue; they go for that cute cuddly kitten. The younger the better, or so they think. I hear them when they come in to KC, "Do you have any kittens?". If the answer is "no", they don't take the time to look at the others like me. And the volunteers at the shelter sing high praise about us cats, but so many visitors have their mind set on a kitten. Can't they see that we older cats are smart, playful, full of love and looking for someone to share our lives with? Don't get me wrong, we get love from the volunteers at KC Rescue, but they are there only so long during the day and they have so much to do and so many cats to love. It's just not the same as having a family of your own to love you. Oh, to have the freedom to roam around a real home, looking for a sunny place to sleep, or a warm lap to curl up in. This is my dream. If you think it's bad for me, there are cats who have been here longer than me. They came in as older cats and no one even stops at their cages. Please, would you help us and print my plea, so when people are looking to add an animal to their home, they adopt from a shelter, and take time to look at the older animals? We make great companions for humans of all ages. Thank you for listening to me. Maybe after you read this my forever home will come true.
Sincerely, Dori
Who We Are
KC Rescue is a registered charity consisting of volunteers working together sharing the same goal ... helping the many unwanted and abandoned cats. We also deal with the feral cats living on the streets. All cats are sterilized to help control the population.TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) has proven to be effective in the area's we have been dealing with!
Adopting a friend
KC Rescue takes pride in the care our cats receive while in our care and we only want the best for them.Consequently, all adoptions have to be approved before cats leave the program. We have a $120.00 adoption fee because our cats are worth it! Plus all of our cats recieve alot of medical attention from our vet.
1) Cats are tested for feline leukemia and the FIV Virus
2) All cats are spayed and neutered (we practice early spay and neuter)
3)Cats recieve their 1st set of vaccinations including the leukemia vaccine and rabies followed by their booster 3 weeks there of
4)All cats are treated for any parasites (worms, mites, etc)
The extra bonus from adopting through us is we know the personality of the cats because of the enviroment they live in. We are able to match personalities with families accurately.
