FOSTER PROGRAM!!!!Our FOSTER PROGRAM enlists the help of private families that want to help by providing a temporary home for animals that have been at the shelter for a long time and for some reason have not been adopted.

While in FOSTER, the animal will benefit from continued training on obedience or any behavioral issues that will help that particular animal in keeping it's next home permanently. Some will simply benefit from having a couch to lie on and human companionship.

If you come to the shelter looking for a certain animal, please check in at the desk to see if that animal is in the program. Arrangements will be made to setup a meeting time that is convenient for you.

The Humane Society of the Black Hills is dedicated to placing every animal that enters our shelter. The reality is, many of the animals surrendered to the shelter are not vaccinated or altered prior to their entry. Some come in with illnesses that can effect the other animals. We vaccinate in an attempt to prevent the spread of illnesses, but until the general public vaccinates and alters ALL of their animals, we will continue to have the over population problems that lead to health issues.

The Humane Society of the Black Hills is largely dependent on volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please stop by or call. There are many different areas that volunteers are needed. Clerical, dog walkers, groomers, public relations etc. If you have a couple hours a month that you can spare, please consider helping the animals in your community.
