Twin City Animal Shelter a Spay/Neuter Leader for Over a Decade
Since Friends of Twin City Animal Shelter began working to save animal lives, one of our most vital goals has involved raising awareness about spay and neutering. We were the first shelter in the Black Hills to make sure that every animal that leaves our shelter is spayed or neutered. This very important step could not have been possible without the support and generous financial assistance of the Cities of Lead and Deadwood. One of our long-time supporters established the West River Spay Neuter Coalition to assist pet owners in communities outside of Lead/Deadwood. In addition, we provide caring pet owners with financial assistance for spay and neuter. Our work has made a substantial difference in pet overpopulation in our area.
We would also like to thank the DJ&T foundation for their generous support. With the assistance of the DJ&T foundation, we are finally able to say yes to the many people who ask us for help spaying and neutering their pets.
Lead and Deadwood commit to a spay/neuter program!
We would like to thank the cities of Lead and Deadwood for allotting funds in support of our new spay/neuter policy. All animals placed out of the Twin City Animal Shelter receive complimentary spay/neuter. We hope that this will go a long way towards reducing the population of unwanted pets in our area.
Who We Are
The Twin City Animal Shelter moved into our brand new facility in the spring of 1999. In concert with the community, we have constructed a great new facility, nearly debt-free. Since opening, we have added a fenced play area for the dogs, an indoor-outdoor cat jungle, a washer/dryer, and many other improvements that make the lives of our animals more comfortable. We are very proud of our shelter, and hope you take a few minutes to stop by and have a look at it, and at the wonderful pets awaiting homes inside. Our shelter is a cheerful place where happy endings begin.
Adopting a Friend
We only ask that you fill out a simple adoption contract and pay a fee. Fees may vary on a sliding scale basis. All animals will be spayed or neutered, and vaccinated compliments of the Cities of Lead and Deadwood.
Volunteering and Donations
We would love to have your help at the Twin City Animal Shelter! More than anything else, these animals need friends. Can you spare a few minutes to pet and play with the animals? It's a fun outing with children, we get lots of excited children who visit. And it's a great way to show children how important it is to take responsibility for another.
Outside of that, whatever you can spare will be appreciated... Foster families, food, blankets, toys, stuffed animals, help around the facility cleaning and feeding, and especially the cold hard stuff, cash.
