YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! Beretta is a 12 week old female kitten who was trapped in a racoon trap by a local family. The family children were shooting Beretta with a BB gun while she was in the trap unable to run or escape. A wonderfully kind boy saw what was happening and tried to get the kitten away from the boys. Eventually parents became involved and our hero and his Mom rescued Beretta. She is now in the care of a local vet and is doing well. BB pellets are still being removed from her body. Fortunately, Beretta will make a full recovery, for now she just wants be held and loved. Dax is a 6 year old gelding in need of URGENT MEDICAL HELP! He was given away because his previous owner couldn't afford him. He has two teeth that came in wrong and are now abscessing and he will need surgery to remove them. The vet quote for the surgery is $600! HEAVEN'S GATE
A man and his dog were walking along a road.
The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white, stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.
He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."
The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.
As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.
The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.
When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," he answered.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's Hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

Come visit us at the Rock Hill, Concord, Matthews or Monroe PetsMarts most every Saturday from noon until about four o'clock. We will have just some of the animals in our care with us. If you have a pre-approved application, we will accommodate you, if possible, by bringing a particular animal or animals to the store for you to meet. We also have adoptable cats in the Rock Hill, Matthews, and Concord Petsmart Stores. The cats are in the store all the time, so please come them anytime!
Use Our Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program
To help to slow the unending stream of unwanted dogs and cats, Operation C.A.R.E. has partnered with Crossroads Animals Hospital of Lowrys, SC to provide a low cost spay/neuter program to the public. Please note that this phone number is ONLY for information about the spay/neuter program. Do not use this number to ask us to take in any animals nor to inquire about any animals that are in our care. We only check this number about once a month! The costs are: $52.00 for a dog under 70 pounds or a female cat; $37.00 to neuter a male cat; $77 for dogs over 70 pounds . There is also an extra charge of $15.00 if your female is already pregnant or in heat. You must bring proof of rabies vaccination at check in or the clinic will administer one for a small fee. The clinic also offers affordable vaccinations and heartworm testing. Please call 803-817-7729 for more information about our spay and neuter program. Operation C.A.R.E. (Carolina Animal Rescue Effort) is a non-profit, all volunteer animal welfare organization. Our mission is to minimize the need for euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets in local Carolina shelters by providing a low-cost spay/neuter option to people in the community and by providing temporary care for homeless animals until they can be placed in quality permanent homes. Our Rescue-Adoption Program focuses primarily on the rescue of animals from area shelters. However, we do attempt to help Good Samaritans in the community who have found homeless or abandoned animals who are destined for shelters. Donations make it possible for us to continue our efforts. We are solely supported by donations and adoption fees. Animals up for adoption through Operation C.A.R.E. have been fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Dogs have been tested for heartworms and cats have been tested for FeLV and FIV. These animals are cared for in foster homes where their personality and behavior can be assessed for the most appropriate permanent home.
How to Adopt a New Friend
Our adoption process begins with a completed application. Please email the pet's foster caregiver at their email address which is listed under the picture of the pet you are interested in and request an application. Adoption is contigent upon finding an appropriate match for the pet and the person adopting. No pet will be adopted without an approved veterinary reference. First time pet owners without veterinary references are considered on a case by case basis. Once an appropriate match is determined, a home visit may be requested by one of the Operation C.A.R.E. volunteers. Operation C.A.R.E. does require a minimum donation to help defray veterinary costs. Donations make it possible for us to continue our efforts. We are solely supported by donations and adoption fees. All adoptions require a signed adoption contract.
